Can anyone tell me if the firewall on a auto trans pickup 1985 has a hole or knock up for a clutch master or do I have cut a hole in it . To make a long story short I am replacing a junk auto trans on my 1985 toyota rv with a 4-speed from my 1987 pickup .and the rv is not close to me like 2 hours away. Thank you for your time. I swaped out the auto tranny in my 91 for a 5-speed when my buddy Jay installed my motor & I want to say that there is a small spot there on the firewall that shows you where the clutch cylinder would mount too. Oh & be sure to get the manual pedals too!!
yes...... there will be small divits or centerpunch markings of where they are to drill a hole for. should have the indentation shown on the outside as well as the inside under the carpet. similar to the indentations made for the A/C systems ont he pass side.
When I had to repace my clutch master cylinder, it was only two bolts holding it to the firewall. Could be the same holding a blank plate. I've never looked under the hood of an auto Toyota truck, but the Rodeo I have as my back up has bolts and blank plate. Never hurts to check! By the way, not all of us have carpet!
anyone running a auto transmission that can tell me if there is a plate where the clutch master needs to be ? Thank you for your time .. Glen Florida Keys
the clutch master sits to the right of the brake master and on a auto will have small dimples where the alignment bolts will go and then you need to punch a hole in the center of that for the rod.
Thank you all for your time .Glen key largo florida 1987 and a 1985 toyota bella rv soon to be 4-speed no more slipping auto
Transmission swap done Well first things first now I have a working 4-speed in place of my junk auto transmission . No rubber plugs on the fire wall where the clutch master should go so with a punch and a hammer got that done . and the 4 speed stick shift sits back about 4 inches more than the auto did so chisel center punch and a hammer did the job but that`s the bad part the drive shaft was two and a half inches shorter so I rigged that and had no problems driving it home over 200 miles but still need the right one . IT`s runs faster than with the 4-speed for sure and top end is a lot better as well .All this work took me and my buddy 2 days well more like 12 hours all on the side or the road .I pulled the 4-speed out of my 1987 working toyota so I need all the part to put that truck back together .flywheel clutch tranny slave master and pedals asst ,lines .Big fun welcome to the good life. Glad to hear that you got it back on the road & I thought you knew about the driveshafts being different! I found that out too when I did the swap from automatic to 5-speed in my extra-cab...turns out that the automatic tranny is longer then the manual so you have to swap that too. Try finding a manual 2-piece driveshaft is a bitch!! I ended up getting one from TAP-Toyota Auto Parts out in California cause nobody on the East Coast had one!
word of warning: make sure you have 4 thats FOUR bolts holding your clutch pedal bracket on. or you will tear the firewall where the 2 bolts are. there should be 2 holes on the top of the bracket to bolt into the firewall/dash area.
