I'm wanting to do just the opposite for my single cab... I want the vented windows, even in the doors. My truck gets hotter in the summer than Dante's Inferno.
Haaaaaa, yeah man I'm right down the road from you so I know what you mean, the "IE" can get stinking hot. That's why I'm so happy that I just got my AC fixed Friday. When I bought her it didn't blow cold so I thought the ac repair might include the retrokit, maybe a compressor or a line or two - at the end of the day and $240 later it was fixed and blowing cold! She held temp pretty good as well, never even reached the half-way point on a 90 degree day in traffic. Sorry to thread jack, I have a solid rear window (84-88) it's used but in good shape, pay for shipping and you can have it.
I, too am sorry about the thread jack, but did you get R134? My AC doesn't work and needs fixed, considering doing the conversion.
Tell me about it guys. I'm originally from Guam where its 80+ all year with 90% humidity. Came out here in 98 and thought the summers weren't too bad. Here I am 11 years later and I can't stand the heat especially when the santa ana winds come. So yeah gotta have a/c.
Always is ebay... I wish I had the url to help you, but last year during one of my classes, I found a Toyota Parts website that had solid and vented for single and extra cabs. Try googleing it, you might find the site.
Fokai.. I see them all the time at the junk yards.. I pulled one out for me.. I'll try and go this weekend see what I can find for you... pm me your digits and I'll text you if I find one..
I tried fitting a solid back window from a '89-'95 xtra cab into my '85 and it didn't fit. It was about an inch too short and about the same too narrow. Hey, OJ. Do you still have that solid back window? PM me your price, I'll take it.
stay r12 and get your leaks fixed. its worth the money and results. you know you have a good system when you can numb your knees at about 12*F
R12 is more expensive but like SD YOTA said definitely worth it. My truck still uses the R12 and boy does it cool my cab FAST. Plus my truck is black so you know it cooks inside on a hot summer day.
