Your PM box is full. Wanted to ask you a question regarding the 18rgu motor. Can you txt me your number? Memory card on my cell flipped out on me a few weeks back and pretty much erased my phone book.

the rest of the world always got the better motors

ps ill clean out my inbox, but dont excpect fast service i have a bunch of projects im now behind on thanks to the sickness, i suppose i should prolly check my e-mail box now too eh?

I got a guy offering me a complete "running" long block, intake and all, minus the Mikunis - $300. This includes the 5speed tranny it came with. Model # of the transmission eludes me at the moment.

Tempted to pick it up. Scheduled to check it out tomorrow.

Though I hear great things about the power these motors have even in stock form, I also hear just as much regarding how difficult or expensive it is to find parts for rebuilding.

Plus, I don't know enough about the motor in regards to it's reliability for daily driving...say...versus a 20R or 22R.

Curious if it's any more or any less work as far as upkeep is concerned as say a 22R (Pre-83').....?

So far most "paid professionals" involved with Toyota, especially in the rebuilding and building-up of the 22r's, have expressed a dislike for the old RG's. But this might just be because that's not the motor that pays for their bills. Not sure.

While most enthusiast, especially owners of Celicas, absolutely love the motor. But this might be because they are purists. Not sure. Again. :)

Anyhow, if anyone else here has actual experience with this motor, I'd love to hear what you think.....pros and cons. Or maybe you've never owned one, but considered one - so you did some research....love to hear what you ultimately decided to do, and why.

    Thanks.

I ran a race prepared 18RG motor with twin Mikunis when I raced my truck. It put alot of power out, Redline was 10,000 RPM, and it produced better then 320HP. The engine is expensive to prepare but durable. If you want a street engine, I would recommend an L.C. Engineering 22R. You can get them with almost any horsepower rating you want and their HP numbers are real. You can run Nitrous if you want. My current truck engine is a 22R with an output of 285HP with Twin Webers.

    18rgu and original 5speed.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the deal today.

$300 for a complete "running" long block 18rgu with it's original steel 5speed.

Not sure, yet, what vehicle I'm going to put it in since I'm still in negotiations for an early 70's HiLux with a dead 18rc.....but if that falls thru then I'll freshen this up and put it in the wagon.
