I'd love to add traction bars to my truck but since I have 2.5" lowering blocks I can't. Adding lowering blocks will reduce the clearance between the bars and the road. Snagging a raised manhole cover in a construction area at 45 mph would be pretty nasty.

Thanks man. Have you started your swap yet?

Further work will slow down to a crawl on the truck. Gonna focus on final cleanup on my supra. Just drove it for the first time yesterday and the motor is nice. The exhaust is alittle too loud for my taste so I will install a pair of resonators.

This winter the truck will get the ford 8.8 and hyundai tiburon seats.

How far back did you shove your motor in the engine bay?
I think I told you I'll be going z 6spd trans. Going to have to make the trans mount work somehow.

I only have an inch clearance between the head and firewall. Had to push it back that far so the sc400 oil pan would clear the drag link. The engine would have to be mounted forward to clear the ls400 oil pan.

Sweet. I have the SC VVTi 1UZ so that's good news.
Haven't gotten back to the truck lately but I did receive the Xcessive Mfg oil relocator block. I'm going to see how the motor sits in the truck without the mounts and see if I can deviate from there. If not, maybe stick with the mounts lol

Here's a pic I stole from Lowtides build.

There's a cable and pulley assembly on the firewall right behind the head. I removed that and pushed the motor back. I also had to massage (dent) the brake booster to clear the corner of the valve cover.

Now, The vvti valve covers are larger than the non-vvti. They would not clear the brake booster in my 1990 supra. I then swapped in the smaller booster from a tacoma and it cleared but I would not be able to remove the valve cover without removing the booster first. So I had to shave the cover.

I cut it with my Harbor Freight metal band saw. Not the best bandsaw but it's great for my work.

Used the same saw to cut out the block off plates and had a shop to weld it in.

    BTW,
The 3uz and 2uz's have smaller coil packs. They may come in handy if you need the room.

I realize this is NOT the point of a build like this, but I'd love to know what kind of MPG you get in this.

Yes mpg WAS DEFINATELY part of the point for this swap. The 22rte got me 12-15 mpg (125-150 miles per fill-up) on 10 psi boost making around 175 hp. The 1uz gets me a solid 25 mpg (250 miles per fill-up) and 260 hp.

    No shit. That's amazing.

Looks like my theory that a V8 doing hardly any work = great MPG actually pencils out.

That was my concern when I first heard about using 4X4 fenders and made me stop... But everything in front of the bed looks great!
