the other day i was on the highway going about 100kms/hour and i had to get off the gas, when i got off the gas the weirdest sorta tiny grinding noise happened and when im driving normally on and off the highway theres like some sorta whistling noise, im not loosing any power in 5th and i noticed that my rearend is leaking a tiny bit (pinion seal has to be changed) but the oil isnt low....what can this be...bearing in the tail stalk? i dunno any help works for me!
no only the one day when i drove for like 3 hours, went to work for about 1 hour came out and i noticed like a penny size drop so i was thinking the pinion seal but i havent had the chance to change it yet... i really need to figure this out before it cost me like a million dollars to fix, i have to go 4 hours north in two weeks!!!! i hope someone has an answer cuz im really stuck here! Thanks Phil
have you inspected your diff for slop? drained the fluid and looked for metal? rotated stuff by hand and checked for noise? my magic ball is cloudy today...
im not sure if how to do that shonuff, i honestly dont think its coming from the rear end, its sounds more like the tail stock, and what if the trans mount is f*cked seemed like it had to be changed went i did the clutch but i didnt bother with it, i mean if the rubber is messed up then its would let the tranny move when its under load right....i dunno i think my problem is that im thinking of everything at once and i dont have money for the mecanic to take a look at it and ive been working overtime like crazy this week and im just way toooooo tired to play around with it....Jeremy if you get to this trend before i get a hold of you(which is almost impossible) call me... Phil
i think Shonuff meant to like, put the rear end up on a jack stands or just one side. put trans in neutral and turn a wheel, see if it rotates good and what not
bearing in the tail stock ?? You mean the pinion bearing in the diff? or a wheel bearing in the axle? or ... ?
bad sounds No, ha ha, I think he is talking about the other end. The transmission end of the driveshaft! I think that there is a bearing there, behind a dust cover or something. Also you might check the u-joints on the driveshaft?
ive experianced something to this type of noise. i found out the pinion seal was loose, and further found the pinion seal shield/cover was touching the pinion snout end of the housing so it would give a high pitch but low tone squeak...... it would rub and make noise under any kind of movement...... go back there and check the shield and see if it has any play in it. usually wanna check the easy/cheap things first
the pinion bearing might be a little loose. take the driveshaft off and hit the pinion shaft nut once with a half inch impact. doesn't take much.
yea ill be going under the truck tomorrow and ill let you guys know what i find!!! thanks for all the help! Phil
