I almost shat myself the other day, when, on my way back to the shop from a job site, i looked down and saw my gauge was reading HOTTTT!!! I immediatly pulled over and shut her down. To my surprise though, she wasnt steaming or particulary hot to the touch either. I breathed a sigh of relief and started troubleshooting. Pump was good, rat was good, plenty-o-coolant. I pulled the thermo and replaced it, and got on my way. But, she was still reading hott. Still worried, i again pulled over and let her sit for almost an hour. I was on company time so i had to quams about wasting a lil time. After letting her cool off, i got back on my way and, again the gauge shot up. I went out today and got a temp sensor, and a repair manual. But im still having trouble cuz the one that i bought has a male plug that doesnt look like any of the ones that i have on my thermo housing. Am i lookin in the wrong place? The books picture doesnt help much. Thanx ahead of time. Peace
i dont know what year your truck is but mine is under the breather right at the front of the valve cover.
Did you make sure that you got the correct thermosensor? My Chilton guide only shows one going into a catalytic converter, I may just be on the wrong page with you guys, but that's all I could find, and nothing about it was listed in the index... piece of crap. I am sure someone else will help you because I'm not really the go-to guy for something like this, I've got the 22RE, and you've either got the 20R or 22R. Good luck... Sorry I am not that helpful.
Finally!!! Ok, so after almost a week, and 4 different parts places, i finally got to the bottom of this one... I was gettin a sensor for a 83 22R, all the while, my 83 actually has a 82 model year motor. So, i finally got the part right, and, viola... my gauge is reading normally again. Thanks so much for the help guys. Now onto locating the right Ported Vacuum Switch. Apparantly its not the most common part on the shelves. Anyway, thanks again guys
