Any one have a stereo dash kit for there pickup? I have a 94' and currently the stereo is just sitting in there with a bunch of space ontop. Maybe the Metra ones? Any pictures installed.
i just cut enough of the stock holder to fit my radio in it..but i did use the mountin brakect in the kit..
I wish I could find a way to put the pocket tray back in mine... ever since I replaced the old cassette player in it (I can't believe I am going to say this, but I may just want to put it back in), I couldn't put it back in with the DIN installation kit I bought at Kragen... Anyway SVS, I can't wait to see how you Supralux looks when it's complete, maybe even Import Tuner would take an interest in that truck... anything is possible.
most vehicles usually need an istallation kit when the stock head unit is removed, especially if the new head unit is a different size, be it smaller or bigger. i personally needed one with my sony single din.
The only thing you need is a wiring harness. You can get those at any local stereo shop, Best Buy, etc. It uses the factory mounting brackets. you have to take apart the whole bottom dash. Here is a couple pics of mine. Now Before. I put this one in my Wife's '08 Focus
joewitafro, I'm a bad reader. Like smctoy mentioned, you also need a pocket, you might be able to get one a local junk yard or stereo shop. general, a couple reasons why I took it out. it looks alot better in my wife's Focus, the kids get to watch movies more, and it lit up my cab like the 4th of July.
then there u go, gotta keep the kids occupied. but i dnt feel like my cab gets enuff light in the dark. thats y im trying to get the dash with a bigger opening for the double din and cup holders. cnt find them tho
Anyone able to fit a trim ring around their head unit? Mine has an Alpine right now, but I want to put my new Eclipse 5100 in and it looks weird without the trim ring.
If you install it the right way, no. The person I bought my truck from cut part of the dash and just "slid" it in. Then you can fit the trim ring. You can see the cuts on the 2nd pic I posted in this thread.
Mine isn't cut too far out. But it doesn't look like your trim ring fits in either? I might try to make a new panel for it. My HU looks really weird without the ring.
I've got one of those aftermarket install kits and pointlessly bought the wire harness (either mine was cut out or not equipped with one, but then again, the wire harness did say 88+), but anyway, I'm wanting to put my pocket tray back in, but the dash install kit goes down too far, do I need to cut it? Main reason I really want the tray back in is because I have wires hanging out and a transparent plastic box I cut there, that's now bent an sagging (88's mounted close to the floor and since I don't have the buckets and console, that's why they're hanging). Any ideas? Probably should have stuck with that crappy cassette I had in before, but cutting and cursing later, a Jensen CD's in.
i picked up a metra install kit listed for my ride but it didnt work checked out metras site and found another kit also listed for my ride this one worked but you cant use the bulky trim rings that come with most head units mines a pioneer so i went on ebay and found a low profile trim ring that pioneer put on some models fits perfectly.
i've put 3 or 4 different single din cd players in and havent been able to use the trim ring supplied with the stereo. its cause the stereo sits to far in. i replaced my old pioneer with an alpine last week and it is kinda angled towards the passenger side. im going to disassimble the dash and try to correct the problem. also, i have 4" pioneer dash speakers in the front and 2 old truck boxes with 8" subs as the rear speakers. they seem to have built in tweeters. the stereo sounds good now, but is here anyway that i can run a bigger speaker in the dash? or will i have to cut the door panels to run a bigger speaker? sorry, not trying to highjack the tread.
