What if i removed my stock muffler and cat and put on a flowmaster maybe 40 series or super 10 and just ran the stock piping ? Would ot sound pretty good? I have classic plates so i dont have to deal with smog

And i dont really give a shit about better flow. 22re arent realy made for racing anyways jist in it for thw noise. I figure taking the cat off and upgrading the muffler would be better than stock anyways.

Flowmaster 40 will probably make it sound raspy. Id use a magnaflow or maybe a turbo muffler

I have stock headers and piping, no cat and a thrush something or other on my 22r and it sounds ok, I cut off everything from right before the axle and back. Located in henderson if you need to hear it.

I've never personally heard a 22r series that sounded "good" with a Flowmaster muffler. Magnaflow style mufflers sound significantly better IMO, that's what I have on my 22re truck. My 20r truck has a flowmaster and it is both stupid loud with a drone and generally sounds like chit. I'm also a believer in keeping CAT on the vehicle if it came with, but if need change then swap it to a free-flowing version. It will make a big difference with the smell of your exhaust fumes.

22re arent realy made for racing??
Look at LC Engineering, These litle 4-bangers can get some real power!!
I run their stage one street legal Pro Street EFI 22re, more than enough power .& can hit 140, I've only taken to 120, easily!!

I have had 2 flowmasters on my truck and one on an old car. First a 40 on the car, then a 50 and a 50 on the truck and I will never own another flowmaster product again. On top of the really bad in cab drone that gave me a headache, two of the three ended up having a baffle come loose and sounded like a swarm of pissed off honda bees.
Changed out the 50 on my truck for a magnaflow knock off and haven't had any issues since. It also sounds better and the drone is much less.

My vote is for a magnaflow.

I had one and it sounded great at idle, wasn't bad in the cab at regular speed, and if I got on it (I did all the time) it sounded nasty.

My setup was a little different than what yours is though, mine was a 22r bored .030 at 10.5:1cr, rv3 cam from local cam shop, engnbldr oversized valves, major professional port work, pace setter header, 2.25" exhaust all the way with a magnaflow.

I currently have a flowmaster knock off in my 4runner with stock 22re and hollowed out cat, and it sounds ok, nothing special.

I had a flowmaster 40 with no cat for about a year, but its just too annoyingly loud for me. Everyone knew it was me coming when I was about a half mile away though lol. Idle sounded good, but driving and heavy acceleration was too loud in the cab for me, like Robert m said. Got a cheaper brand Turbo muffler now and I like it much better. Not the best tone, but definitely more quiet. I'd go for tone more than volume of sound when it comes to the exhaust.

Stock piping to the cat, then new piping the exhaust shop did, don't know forsure what size, but I think its 2". I only went for sound, not for performance.
