Its new 2.25 inch pipe straight from the manifold to the muffler and then to the tip. No CAT. Same way I have run all my yotas in the past. I usually delete all the emissions. This is my first toyota pickup.
I used to run Doug Thorley back in the day on my old skool corollas. I have heard they arent what they used to be now. I read some reviews online and I think LCE is what I am going to go with. LCE looks to be quailty American made and they specialize in Toyota. I like the 1/2" thickness of the flange also. This is the header Im looking at right now.
Doug thorley got bought out so no, the current headers they make aren't as good as they once were. He's back making his own headers again under the "Doug's Headers" brand. If I had to complain about my current lce header it would be that it is too close to the torsion bar. I left the nuts on the head loose and wedged a screwdriver between the header and bar then tightened the header up and it left enough space to not rattle. I also had an earlier though barely used version that had a 3 bolt collector so I welded on a V band clamp instead.
I read somewhere that the 4WD LCE header will hit or come too close to the torsions on a 2WD truck. That is why they have a 2WD version. There is like 4 different headers for the 22re that LCE makes depending on the year and 2WD or 4WD.
Depending on the brand a header built for a 85 and prior 4x4 will fit into a 79-95 2x4 truck but the sway bar has to be removed. Some brands clear the sway bar so it can be left in place. The collector actually dumps inside the torsion bar so a bit of trickery is needed to get the pipe up and over the torsion bar. That same solid axle era 4x4 header will fit a 75ish to 78 2x4 if you flip the steering box bolts around so they come out from the inside rather than in from the outside. Lce sells a 2x4 version because it fits properly in a 2x4 truck. The angle of the collector and it's location are different. Plus the 2x4 is shorter vertically from the flange on the head to the collector so it doesn't hang down as far.
The crossover block off plate is just for looks... like white trash said, you block off both ends it doesn't do a single thing.
I thought the exhaust ports and gasket were different on older trucks then the newer ones? The 22R has round ports and the 22RE has oblong looking ports. There is also differences with or without air injection for the EGR I read about.
Show me a header that actually uses the pear ports instead of a round pipe at the flange. The EGR ports are drilled on most headers made after about 1985ish since it's easier to make one header flange for all fitments. A good majority of my headers have had 3 holes in between cylinder 2 and 3 so they work with early 20r that used a single bolt and 22r that uses 2 spread apart.
