Bought a 76 hilux with chopped springs in the front and the ride is rock hard and bouncy as all hell and im looking into having a more comfortable setup. ive heard of the belltech mighty max springs but i want to know the amount of drop on the lowering springs versus the stock ones because ive heard the stock ones still give it a drop. (picture examples maybe?)
Here's a link with a bunch of info, right here in this forum! Pictures and everything! http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/suspension-chassis-47/alternative-coil-spring-set-up-7552/ Hopefully that helps out, it definitely helped me get an idea of the difference.
My 77' had the Belltech springs when I bought it and it was just too low to be comfortable, not enough suspension travel. I ended up getting some stock mighty max springs and it raised it up probably an inch (no idea on stock ride height) and rides MUCH better. I also live in Iowa with horrible roads, if you have smooth roads the Belltech springs might be tolerable.
Doubke check to see if the removed one or both bump stops upfront, my 77 had a 1.5-2" spacer type block bolted where the bump stop hit, removed that and it gave more room to move.
I also bought a '76 w/ chopped springs, the ride sucks. I want to raise it back up to stock height, does anyone know where i can get factory replacement springs?
So it sounds like the stock Mighty Max springs are going to give the best comfort yet drop the front around 3", right? Both cut stock spring and the Belltech MM drop springs are going to be stiff and bouncy? What about shocks for pairing with the new setup? I think I read Camaro shocks are what some are using? I assume they're 3" shorter with the same mounting style? I think I also read something about grinding the center of the control arms so a larger diameter shock will clear everything? I want to drop my truck from stock height - right now I've got just shy of 3" between my tire and fender, but I think I will need new wheels/tires to make this happen, something with diameter closer to the stock 24" tire. Right now I've got 17" mustang wheels with I think like 26" diameter tires (not sure exactly, fronts are taller/skinnier than my rears which are shorter/wider).
I have to say that i looked up The first gen camaro shocks that have been mentioned before and they were the same PN as the replacements for our trucks. Maybe there is a 1 certain shock or something? Idk just throwing that out there
hmm, so they're the same length? I'd think that if you're dropping the truck 3" you'd want a 3" shorter shock so you don't bottom that sucker out and destroy it.
