Hello, I'm Brian. Toyotas are my favorite auto make and I'm happy to own just a few. So does my family and extended family - I think it's pretty awesome to pull up to a gathering and there's 15 Toyotas parked out front, lol. Growing up my dad had sold me on Toyotas reliability when he bought a new 1985 2wd xcab pickup that he used for work until 1999, when the truck got jealous of the new Chevy he bought and it threw a rod at 350k leaving him stranded for the first time. I think that truck only had one clutch job and just normal maintenance. My uncle still drives this truck I think. Maybe someday I'll inquire and buy it back! Anyways, I started my vehicle ownership with a 1967 VW bug, then had a 1993 Volvo 240. Then in college I bought a sweet 1987 Toyota 4wd xcab with the 22re turbo. It was an awesome truck and had beautiful metal flake brown paint. Unfortunately it got totaled and I needed the cash. Had I known about buying back vehicles from insurance and SAS id likely still have it. Oh well. After the yota I stupidly bought a 1983 k5 blazer diesel and should have bought a 4Runner. Sold that POS and ran with the money. Then my mom handed me down her 1991 Volvo 740 wagon, drove it for a while then needed a pickup truck. I got an awesome manual everything 1983 Datsun 720 pickup - last year of Datsun I think. It was a great truck and I'd have kept it but decided I "needed" 4wd. So I put a wanted ad out for my ideal truck after 6months of searching for the right one. I ended up with what I consider one of the best combos Toyota ever came out with - 1993 Toyota 4wd xcab with 22re and 5spd. Still have this truck but now it has 33" Toyo MTs, 4.88 gears and a locker, an OME 2" lift, rock sliders, custom rear bumper, and a bunch of other goods. It's mildly built to handle work and play. My current fleet is: 1993 Toyota 4wd 2001 Corolla S 2002 Land Cruiser 100-series 2013 Prius II 2006 Suzuki SV650 1968 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 convertible NOW people can call me a Toyotaholic because last night I picked up something I've always wanted - a 1975 Toyota Hilux. Agreement with the wife is its replacing the motorcycle and the Corolla. I think I got a good deal on the truck. PO had it under 2yrs and invested a lot into it - he completely restored the interior with new floors, paint, dash, dyno mat, upholstery, new glass and weatherstripping etc. it looks cherry inside. He also rebuilt the 20r engine and cleaned up the engine bay. Did a bunch of exterior work but still a couple spots to address like the dent on drivers side where can meets bed. Exterior is only primer right now. He also gave me a huge tub of parts and a fat stack of all his receipts probably totaling at least $6-7k in just parts is my guess. Only thing the truck needs to drive daily is new steering since he didn't touch it yet and its squirrelly. New carb has a flat spot if you stomp the gas but I figured out how to work with it. And exhaust has a leak at header to exhaust connection. Also the exhaust is obnoxiously loud with no cat and a flowmaster, I'm likely going to quiet it. So anyways I got all that for $3k. I think it's a good deal for CA prices. I guess I'll figure out getting some pics up to share and I'll see yall around the forums! Btw I'm also on Yotatech ih8mud and pirate4x4, but go by highonpottery. Thanks!
thanks, yeah i was thinking that when he told me his asking price, so i bought it. yeah, my neighbors across the street own only Toyotas too. they just picked up the white 2wd about a 2 weeks ago. Last night they had a family gathering and I think our street consisted of 4x Toyota pickups, 2x Prius, 2x Corollas, 2x Lexus, a Scion, a 4runner, a Rav4 and a Land Cruiser. Same thing happens whenever my wife's side of the family gets together, it's awesome.
