Great work! I just picked up a complete, non wrecked 1993 LS400 for $700. I'm trying to decide whether I want to put it in my 85 4Runner or my 89 2WD. I'm leaning towards the 2WD pickup since it's already torn apart in process of carb to EFI swap. Looking forward to seeing updates on your build.
Doesn't stay running. It's a high mileage engine. I should make 2000-2500 parting out since the body is straight a,d everything works well. I planned on overhauling the engine so mileage isn't really an issue.
Small update. Havent done much other than organized my workspace. Hopefully that will get me motivated when i see a clean shop instead of walking into a messy shop. Both the 1uz and 22r alternators use a 3 pin plug. Just different plugs and different lengths. Wiring diagrams for both side by side Colored so i can see which wire goes where with a quick glance 22r alternator harness 1uz alt harness that i put together a while back. Need to replace the broken plug. 22r plug cut off and labeled. Old engine mount makes a great soldering iron holder 1uz alternator to 22r fender plug.
I really wish people made ready to go harnesses for lazy people like me lol. I've got a 3.0 and 1UZ harness sitting in my garage for my 1UZ swap and I haven't had time to go through it all and splice them together. Great work so far!
I dont have any for sale at this time. Im going to hold on to the sets i have since i might need spares in the future
Yeah I haven't been on my 90 in about the same amount of time. Mainly trying to get my Taco in shape. It's purring now but I've been flushing the cooling system thoroughly because it seemed pretty neglected.
I went by your shop a week ago and saw your truck sitting outside its looking really nice. I need to make time for my truck
Looks like its gone pretty smooth so far... Seems like the main hurdles are oil pan/ exhaust manifold clearances and i don't recall reading any crying about that, lol.
In post #55 I didnt post my crying and cursing but i sure was that day . I planned ahead of time to take care of that problem before placing the motor in the truck. I didnt post this either but i ended up using O2 sensors off a Japanese 1998 LS400. They were short enough to give the clearance the engine needed. I didnt have to move the sensor locations.
So, with the rear sump and ebay mounts(with modification and adjustment), you didn't have to notch anything or remove your sway bar, etc...? And the SC400 exhaust manifolds cleared the firewall with just the o2 sensor swap?(Didn't have to cut off the flange) I've read through 1uz swaps to get a better idea of what i'd be up against/parts to collect, but the most detailed write ups have been 4wd and there are always gaps/missing info, so i'm just picking your brain I'm finally at that point where i can put my truck down and give it some love...
I didnt have to notch anything so far. My transmission has not been installed yet. There is plenty of room to the firewall with sc400 exhaust manifolds and yes the flanges are cut off to clear the frame on passenger side and the steering rod on driver's.
Thanks! I always planned on getting a running driving car for the swap, so i would have access to all i need, but i saw this on CL: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/ptd/5399606743.html Makes me want to jump the gun...even if it means just having the correct oil pan/exhaust manifolds/misc. parts/spare motor. And getting a parts car later....Most likely a ls400, (since they are cheaper and plentiful). Do you know if the LS/SC 89-94 are different enough to make that kind of a plan too complicated? Sorry for spamming up your build thread. I just want more youtube videos to watch of 1uz minis
For the price i would buy that just for the parts. I have not looked into the differences between years and models. I focused on the year and model i had since i had the whole car. I believe the wiring diagrams are different and so are sensors. i wish there were more videos as well!
