Hey guys, my name's Steven. Just moved to Nashville a couple weeks ago from California and I recently got a 1990 Standard cab Base model with the carbureted 22r. Really digging this truck, it's pretty clean for the year, just a few rust spots in the paint that I plan on cleaning up. It's 2wd of course, so I won't be doing much wheelin' and there's some odds and ends like the vacuum hoses that are partially disconnected and the clutch shudders occasionally, but all in all I'm super happy with it and I'm happy to have found a community dedicated to these awesome vehicles! I look forward to getting to know you guys better and learning more about what I have. Any advice for a complete newbie to the carbureted pickups? btw, these are actually pics from a previous owner I found online while researching the 1990 Pickups, still need to take some of my own!
Welcome. Super clean lookin truck there. I like that's it's not a common color though I do know it's stock. Plans for the truck?
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I'll be sure to get up some shots of my own here soon. As for plans beyond general repairs and maintenance, I don't have much in mind. The steering wheel is turning to dust and it has a cover that's probably period correct so I wouldn't mind replacing the steering wheel entirely. If I could find an OEM replacement I'd jump on it. It has the dark orangish brown interior and it seems pretty uncommon. The seats are covered with what looks like someone's old stained linens (although I know they aren't) but I'm definitely in need of either a replacement bench or some quality covers. A camper shell is in order once I track a suitable one down. And on that topic, obviously camper shells of this vintage have flaking paint and look a bit unsightly. Can anyone comment on the difficulty of repainting a fiberglass shell? Otherwise, clean up the paint rust to prevent pitting and on Monday she goes to the mechanic to replace the steering drag link, fix the leaking vacuum hoses the PO disconnected, fix the blink combo switch (buzzing when I signal left), diagnose and fix the shuddering (probably pressure plate or flywheel) and give it a valve service to get her running right. Down the line, a new carb and air cleaner. Any recommendations on a good one for daily driving? Thanks guys! I have a lot to learn.
