I've seen the black outs on chowderboy's and I'm hooked. I'm wanting to do that on my 4x4, but I need to know if the canned black outs are any good? My aunt and uncle's auto parts store sells some and I wanted some input if aanyone else has used this stuff before. And my dad disassembled our air compressor two years ago (?) and left it like that, so our spray gun we have won't do anything.

Coincidence or is it that great minds think alike:D We both have 1988 4x4's that came with the same rims and we both want to black out our taillights! I thought about doing this since before I signed up for this site, I was a guest visiting once a week thanks to toyotareference.com and I figured, "Hey I have some questions and answers... I'll join." Props to everyone who has given me ideas on this site! Thanks.

Sorry though, I meant black out taillights, I posted under chowderboys a while, but I haven't heard anything back.

If you do it right it's awesome. I did these on my buds truck and then we had them cleared.

No, the shop sell taillight blackout in a spray can, like the engine enamel, I'm thinking of doing that. But, matte black would be hot too. I want my truck to stay charcoal metallic, hence my screen name Sand Shark.

I have the part number! The product I am talking about is by VHT custom paint and coatings, it's called Nite-Shades and sold in 8 oz. spray cans, part #SP999 on page P158 of the now outdated 2007 Performance Corner catalogue. $9.99 each! Hope this clears up any confusion I caused:eek:

Sounds good to me. Auto Zone told me they didn't have anything like that and told me that there was a hobby shop somewhere on Mission Trail that I should try them. I originally wanted to try and get the Nite-Shades because Autoaid (my aunt and uncle's shop) has it and gives me discounts and credit.:D Actually, your signature image was what made me really want to go through with it, and I like how you left the reverse lights clear, gives it some good contrast.

You tinted your head lights too? I was thinking of just blacking out the bumper and corner lenses. Looks great man!

Sweet, i actually painted over the reverse lights. But i think rubbing with a rag damped with denatured alcohol over the reverse section will get it back to the contrast part. haha

I lightly sprayed over the reverse section, reverse lights are still bright!
