ok so as the title states my engine wont stay running. 93 xtdcab v6 sr5 model 5 speed. so basically what happens is when i go to turn on the truck is starts up normal but if i dont give it gas and keep givig it gas the motor idles down and shuts off.now if i give it a little bit its almoost like it chokes itself to get up in rpms untill like 2k. as long as i keep it at 2k or higher its fine i even got another afm sensor thinking maybe it was thatand same issue. now if i unplug the afm sensor itll stay running like normal no added help needed .... so im kinda at a stand still if anyone has any advice or help i would greatly appreciate it ..
I had a very similiar issue and it still bogs down but only after driving for a long time and then trying to restart the truck....i changed my fuel filter and changed my fuel pump..that with a tune up fixed it up.....also took the truck else where to adjust timing and they stated that my injectors where prob clogged and on there way out..i didnt change injectors but truck runs fine...
ya, sounds like fuel delivery is clogging up. maybe try change filter and get some seafoam in the tank or some type of fuel additive/cleaner.
it is likes this on cold start and when its warm. i was driving it the day before and nothing was wrong the next morning when i was leaving the house i noticed the idle was only at 400 unlike the previous night and after a couple stops it got to the point where it barely ran and then one red light it just shut off
As a quick check plug the AFM back in and pull the vacuum line off of the fuel pressure regulator. I would guess that it is a fuel delivery problem and that putting the ECM into limp-home mode is causing the fuel pressure VSV to go wide open and let the truck run. Just a hunch.
So since I've been home I've checked and tried this same issue at first it shot up in Revs but then went back to its old ways ...... Might actually have to take it in to see what's wrong
Change fuel filter (they are cheap)...and while you're at it and have the lines disconnected, verify the pump pumps like it should. I highly suspect the filter. It's clogging up not letting enough fuel by until the engine revs are high enough to create a suction draw in the fuel system strong enough to overcome the restriction in the filter. Good luck!
