Awesome. I'm really curious about this build. Maybe sometime soon I can meet up with you and check it out. Especially after it's in.
very nice. only regret i have about the 1uz swap i did was running the auto. it worked fine and was plenty fast but shifting would have made it a lot more fun.
Love the build thread. I have been contemplating on doing a motor swap or keeping the 22r. I wanted to do a V8 swap in my 240 and sell the SR but I think Im sold on the 1UFZ. Called up some local junkyards and pull a partd. Engines range from $500-700 with 120k miles and only come with a harness. Would need to source a ECU and tranny. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Alan
Havent had much time to work on the truck. My second daughter was born last week so I have been helping the wife instead of working on the truck. But here is what I have done. ECU and engine harness attached to the glove box And how it is mounted. Wires sticking out at the moment. Still looks like a glove box. And still a functional glove box for the most part. You can see where I had to cut part of the glove box for it to close properly.
Threw this out the window 2 days ago because I'm redoing the wiring for the 4th time. Took everything out. And put it in my junk pile. Going to hide everything behind the center dash panel. Right under the Radio. I am working on a wiring diagram and will post it up later.
So I had everything wired to 3 relays. A master, starter, and fuel pump. I ended up deleting the starter relay... because a light went off in my head. The truck is already wired the same way as the 1UZ for the starter. Would just have to change the connectors? i won't know until I get to that point. How it looks like from the front side. All that will be visible are the fuses and LED for the ECU. Coin holder is still functional. As it closes all the way. And then the organized mess as my wife calls it. Everything runs or will run through a connector for easy removal.
Update: Have had a busy couple of weeks. Was in Denver doing training for Toyota. The weather here has been bipolar so its hard to get time to work on the truck. Back to the truck... haven't done anything with wiring. Just needto have the engine in the truck to make sure I have the correct wire lengths and placement of accessories. I started to tear the engine bay apart last night. Going to have the 22r out pretty soon. As for the 1UZ I have been ordering parts for the engine. Alot of plastic peices are brittle and break if not handled with care. This happened the last couple of days. Block off plates for the 1UZ emissions still need to be made.
Keep posting can't wait to see the wiring diagram I need to start on mine and some pics could help get the ball rolling
I am still working on the wiring diagram since I dont know how most of it will mount or line up when the engine is in. I have a lot of notes on it right now and is a mess, its hard for me to read it when I stop for a couple of days and come back to it. A couple of links I used A LOT to do most the wiring. a walk through of how to wire up a Crown. Pin locations and colors may be different from your year since it is a Crown. Im going to be using the single speed fuel pump. 1UZFE Crown Fuel Pump This is from the link above. I have my own wiring diagram made from this because like I stated its different. I also removed the Starter relay because I will be using the existing one on the truck but will have to change the connectors. http://lextreme.com/article/1UZSingleSpeedFuelpump.jpg A good write up and detailed wiring diagrams can be found here. Just be carefull, this is how to do it on a 93. I have a 93 and there are mistakes in pin location and wire colors as well. I used a TOYOTA wiring diagram to be sure I had the right pins. I had a scary incident while pulling the engine out. The hook on the tear of the head broke when the engine was at the highest point on the hoist. The hook flew about 20 ft and the bolt head hit my neighbors house. The engine smashed my upper radiator support but got lucky the hook up front still held on.
I have that yotarip! I saved it because you mentioned it in your build thread. It's in the box of parts I saved from the lexus. Thanks!
Removed the 22r emissions ECU and any wire that goes to it from the engine bay. The 22r is very simple with the wiring I did this without a wiring diagram. But I do need to get one for the wiring behind the dash. The dash will come out soon to remove the rest of the emissions ECU wiring behind it. Wires that will stay from what I can remember. Alternator Starter Headlights Turn Signals Running Lights Horn Windshield Wiper Motor Wiper Fluid Motor A/C - crossing my fingers that it will fit on the passenger side of the 1UZ Brake Fluid Level Reverse Light
Good luck with all that! Looking good. If I may ask why didn't you take off the truck tranny before removing the engine? Will you be attempting to put the 1uz in complete with tranny or separately?
It was super easy to take it all out in one peice. I am doing this swap by myself. No helping hands to wiggle the transmission out from under the truck. The 1UZ will go in seperately just because I know its not going to stay in the first time I put it in. process i did to take it out in one peice. shifter shifter retainer driveshaft transmission mount bolts (4) speedometer gear reverse light wire radiator fan accessory belts a/c clutch line exhaust manifold drain fluids heater hoses fuel lines air pump? and all the emission vacuum valves
