Looking for info and help on my 78 Hilux Dually. ISO L43 trans, or hints as to a possible fix for it. It's stuck in second, and the shifter is loose feeling like the linkage is broken. I'll post pics if asked, I appreciate any help and info or interest!

 

Hell swap in a W55

 

Will I need to move crossmembers? I'm trying to get it on the road the fastest and cheapest way possible. I appreciate your input though, I'm a noob.

 

When I blew up my stock 4 speed in my 77 (should be the same..) and put in a w55 I had to cut off the stock trans mount from the crossmember and made my own mount. Basically two uprights welded to the crossmember that bolted to the tranny.. I did it by myself in 2 or 3 afternoons, with the exception of having help putting in the tranny.. didn't have to have the driveline shortened but I did have it freshened up and balanced..

 

Thanks for the info! Doesn't seem like it'll be too hard.. I have limited space and funds though. But definately something to keep in mind.

 

I'm thinking the 89-95 crowd needs to secede from the union though

 

Theres been a good amount of 2nd gens coming up but no ones posting anything. Myself included lol
