    gas tank vent

I have been trying to figure this out myself. I know that there is a vent line that runs to the front of my truck from the gas tank. A breather can be put in this (keep it high in the engine compartment). Well actually that's on my Tacoma but it is definetly worth finding out about the pickup's vent line. Charcoal canisters can be removed on tacomas. That's all that I know so far.

I just bought my 92 from a mechanic. It also runs rough once it's warm. RPM are around 600 at idle. I don't know for certain if it's running correct but, like I typed, he is a mechanic.

Thats a vent or a purge solenoid for the EVAP emissions system. i guess you could take it off and block the hoses if you wanted. the check engine light would always be on though. Sounds like it might be leaking vacuum, i'd replace the thing.
