Hey guys I got a couple of questions. My 80 came with the non tach gauge cluster so I went to a pick n pull and found one out of an 81. I swapped it out, it already had the plugin for it, and the tach doesnt work. When I turn the key to On. It moves a hair so its getting power. But it doesn't do anything when accelerating Also, I got the center gauge cluster for the volt meter and oil pressure gauges and I dont see a plugin in the harness. Any thoughts ? Im trying to turn my dlx into an sr5 Thank you
So I found out since i dont have an sr5, the harness wont allow the sr5 options to plug n play. The tach plugin is missing wires for the actual tach. And theres no plugin in the harness to plug in the ammeter and oil pressure gauges. Anyone have 2 cents to throw in ? Get a new harness maybe ? Splicing in somewhere ?
Hey there! While I don't really have a solution for you, I do have a question. I have an '80 sr5 that has a tach, but the tach doesn't work. Once in a very great while it will decide to work and when it does, its fine, but 99% of the time it doesn't. What sort of teardown is necessary to access the wiring and the harness for it? I want to get in there and see what might be the issue, but I wanna go in with sort of a plan of attack you know? I hope you don't mind me asking, I just figured you're kinda familiar with the setup in there. Thanks!
Check the connections and the wires at the plugs. Wires get corroded over time and can cause a bad connection. Or you can find a FSM and see if theres any way to bench test the tach
