Just got into an engine class and I'm looking to find and rebuild a 22re long block. My main question is what do I need to do the master rebuild. Also where online or local place near long beach, ca is a good place to get the parts I need. Not looking to build it up, just a basic rebuild. Thanks!

Engnbldr doesn't carry the top quality parts but it's all good quality and damned fine prices. Shipping is crazy fast too.

Just use an OEM toyota head gasket with all the engnbldr parts

Don't really need an oem head gasket for stock rebuild.. I ran the one from engnbldrs rebuild kit in mine and it lasted just fine. Mine was about 10:1 compression and saw upwards of 6k rpm often

When my head gasket blew and I went to replace it with one from engblder, it looked identical to the one that blew in under 10k of the rebuild. Other people over on yotatech have had the same issues with them blowing not long after being installed also. I have no issues with anything else ted sells, but the $40 for the OEM head gasket is money well spent. IMO

I have 20,000 miles on my head gasket so far. I don't baby my truck. But you can never go wrong with OEM if installed correctly.

The only head gasket I've ever consistently seen blow on an r series is fel-pro. Most other failures were from having a pitted or non flat surface on either the head or deck.

Moral of the story is to make sure your surfaces are clean and flat and not use fel-pro head gaskets. :D
