Hello everyone- I am considering purchasing a 77 Hilux and was wondering if I would come to regret doing so due to smog requirements. I am not, unfortunately, that handy with cars and would appreciate any honest advice you can give a young person like myself. Looking for a daily drive and Baja Mexico Blaster.

Here is a post of the add : Toyota hilux 77 clean title

Smogging a vehicle at the time of sale is the responsibility of the seller. However, having said that, early cars are too easy to just "buy" a certificate for and you are going to have to get it smogged in two years again. So it ultimately becomes your responsibility.

Since you say you are not mechanically inclined, I would take a friend or someone who can tell you by inspecting the truck that it is COMPLETELY stock. Or, I believe, you can actually take the truck to a smog station (if the seller allows) and have it "pre-tested" where they will test the truck but not send the results to Sacramento.

    Otherwise, I would pass...
