bought new gaskets(for Advanced Auto) friday and installed them saturday. drove it and after i got back the header was red hot!

the gaskets i put in had a metal band in the center, but the outer part looked to be some cork type material! Did i install the wrong gaskets?

I need to figure this out soon, bc it is bothering me!

Never have seen a header get that hot. I'd remove all inspect, clean & if needed replace the gasket!!

    im voting for running rich.

a clogged cat would just bog the engine down. or the cat itself would overheat to the point of a fire hazard. but the manifold wouldnt get that hot.

    btw-

the gasket you installed "metal doughnut" is correct, thats what i get when i need one.

Just toss water on your headers when they are red hot.

    That should solve your problem.:runaway:

My guess is that additive is causing a very hot burn. Pull the plugs & see what they look like!'
    And drain the tank!!

You didn't play with your timing by any chance... that could also cause that manifold to GLOW red hot.
