No doubt about that, I already tore apart the head:D Had it apart it 2 minutes, and already got most of the casting flash ground down, just need to smooth it all out... Someone before me already started gasket matching the head, has a nice little bevel to it but its definitely going to be a smoother transition. This head will also be getting the aluminum rocker arms, i figure that 2oz of weight reduction equals about 50hp right?

I really want to do bigger valves, figure this beast will need to breathe! I have a spare 22re head with the pear shaped exhaust ports, was wondering if I can use those valves? or are they the ones that change the geometry stuff and need the special machining or whatever?

This head has what looks like a water port between cylinder 3 and 4 intake ports, but the gasket covers it? is there a different gasket and a special intake I need?

For the intake, you mean the water port between the #2 and #3? That has a water plate but most people block it. If you mean inside, I can't recall.

As for the valves, I think the 22R ones are 1mm larger diameter with the same seat specs but the length is off a bit so check seat to keeper distance. My current head is gasket matched with no exhaust side work done. Nothing smoothed on the chamber to keep compression up. I have the aluminum rockers but didn't on the previous 20/22R in the truck and I couldn't tell much difference except it was smoother above 4000rpm by a little. If you got them run them but its not the part I would spend time hunting for.

Heres a picture of the holes im talking about. I noticed theres one between 1 and 2's intake ports also.. Im talking about the little square ones.

They get covered with the gasket I have, dont know if I need a certain gasket and intake or what..

As for the rest of the head, I already have aluminum rocker arms, and it will get new valve stem seals and hopefully bigger valves..

Man looking back at when I bought this truck, It has come a long ways in the 9 months Ive owned it.. It was so filthy and full of leaves and pine needles EVERYWHERE and now I baby it! The heater didnt work and the dash was cracked, it blew decent amounts of black smoke and didnt like to run all the time.. Now it starts first try everytime, runs cooler with its aluminum radiator, runs better with its weber and deleted egr crap and full 2" and glasspack exhaust, perfect inside other then my seat(Hopefully soon Ill get it redone), 3/3 drop, and soon a decently built motor. :D I love my truck!

And today I buffed out some of the paint, mainly the hood and roof.. Used a variable speed buffer with wool pad and mequiars polish, then a coat of meguiars gold class carnuba wax.. Shines pretty good now:cool:

Nothing much has changed lately, other then she's started to leak from just about everywhere... Working full time and not feeling like doing much after work sucks!

However, I scored getting both doors and the passenger side fender off a truck at the junkyard. Damn thing was labeled as a 79 so I didn't really think about it, until I went for a rocker assembly and walked past it and noticed it wasn't a 79 after all!

I'm doing the body work up too sealed primer then I'll put them on. Already got the passenger door as good as I can get it, a couple little dents but I don't want to make it worse. And this isn't going to be a show truck, just a badass daily driver:waytogo: I still have a ways to go on the fender, and I need to order the weatherstripping for the doors.

I've also started working on a late 22r for my truck, I sold my built 20r to fund this one and it's for sure going in my truck! The bottom end is .030 over with OEM pistons, king bearings, engnbldr steel guide timing kit, and the head is getting oversized valves, RV3 cam, and professionally ported and polished. Should be a solid build, and I might go EFI later down the road.

This truck has done me good, now it's time for me to help her out:waytogo:

    Just a little(BIG) update..

Two weeks ago I swapped the old semi-wornout 20r for a pretty built 22r.. I can't say it was easy, but it did go pretty smoothly!

It's got just about everything possible done to it, stock bottom end bored .030" and polished crank, the head got uber ported and polished, engnbldr OS valves, some kind of SBC valve springs and retainers (110lbs of seat pressure, more then double stock springs), rv3 cam, and DUI distributor with live wires, and puts it to the wheels with a marlin crawler HD clutch..

This things pulls pretty hard! Still not quite broken in, but up to 5k it goes quick! I can definitely tell I need to rejet or get a bigger carb.. I also plan on getting a dual plane intake.

I'll try to post pictures later, but there is a pic on Instagram! 77toyota :waytogo:

Thanks, I no longer own her though.. I've since bought and sold a first gen 4runner, and now I have a 2013 tacoma.. I do miss the fun I had in that truck though
