The reason I had a difficult time with this is because on my 88 the leads are under the axel, that's why these can only be used as lowering blocks. If the leafs sat above the axel then I would have never ran into this .

Hey this is an old thread but this is the most information I could find about this kit?...

I have like 3 block kits that claim lift or drop... but like described I need to have a flip kit....

My question is am I supposed to flip the entire axle as well?? Because in that picture the flat bracket welded to the bottom of the axle is then shown on the top of the axle with the leaf springs resting on top instead of underneath??
If I dont have that flat bracket facing up.. then the leaf springs will probably slip around...

but flipping the axle doesnt make sense to me.... I'd have all these brake lines to **** with and the pressure valve on top of the differential would now be facing down probably letting gear oil out......

I'm desperate to lift the back up a couple inches for this road trip and I need a simple solution...

You don't flip the axle. If you did, you would have 5 reverse gears and one forward gear (would rotate backwards) and all the gear oil will drain out the vent!

Flip kits usually come with a spring pad that either is welded in or is specifically shaped for the truck's axle so that it has long legs that hold it flat against the original spring pad. But I wouldn't trust these bolt on kits; I would weld in new spring pads.

The easiest and cheapest (but not necessarily the best) way would be to get 6" longer rear shackles. This will raise the rear about 3" but you should probably install angled shims between the axle and the leaf spring.

The next easiest and cheapest way would probably be to get re-arched springs.

You can also get the spring eyes (ends) rewound the opposite direction. This would give you about 2".

And then there is always getting the flip kit.

Finally, you might be able to stick a 4X4 axle in there. The spring pads are already on top of the axles rather that the bottom. I think that alone would raise the rear 3". But I dunno how difficult it would be to put in a 4X4 axle...

I used a rancho add-a-leaf on my 88 2wd,raised it about 3.5 inches. Need to work on the rear brake load lever, been driving almost 2 years like that. Wish it was about a 1.5" lower but overall I'm happy with it .

What he said is actually easier and cheaper. Just add another second or middle leaf.
