I can do a large range of repairs to the truck I have, 77 Hilux, with a 20R, and a 5 speed trans. I have never had to troubleshoot a manual before, so I have a question for you all. When I got the truck the owner said the clutch was out, I got to looking it at. The clutch pedal had no tension on it at all. Press and straight to the floor. So I got the wife to get into it and press it while I looked around, the fluid in the clutch master cylinder, which was original, looked clear and not black or brown. Then I found the clutch slave cylinder and it is what not moving at all. So I ordered a clutch master cylinder, I still have to bleed it, but the same thing! Pedal goes to the floor super fast, I know I need to get the air out. Could it be the slave cylinder or the clutch is gone? I am pretty handy, but only messed with automatics. Any help or suggestions would be great!
You need to bleed and bleed and bleed. If the Master Cylinder is new and well bled out then you would either have a firm pedal or a leak. If you have a firm pedal and can't depress it at all then the slave is locked up. I just replaced both on my truck as the MC was leaking into the interior floor pan through the face of the MC. Check that the slave cylinder actuator is seated into the slave cylinder and that the clutch arm is holding tension on it, to a point. There will be a bit of slack between the end of the slave actuator rod and the slave with the bottomed out(fully extended) clutch arm but not much, just a little wiggle room. If the arm is not holding the slave actuator in then it is either way out of adjustment(the actuator rod) or the clutch pressure plate is shot.
Glad you sorted it out. There is also a tad bit of pedal height adjustment. I set mine a hair higher so that when it hits the floor I know its fully engaged. Plus I added carpet which brought my floor up.
