I was just wondering how many people here are OK with an Oil Leak? Doesn't matter the size. An oil leak is an oil leak..I can't tell you how many times I've seen a nicely built truck or car and it have an oil leak. Just wondering, Is it a big deal or do you spend your money on more important things?

I am, only because the only thing not leaking is the rear main... And it'll be less work to swap motors then to fix the leaks:waytogo:

PO said he had the timing chain changed and my timing cover leaks like crazy, all the seams are overly gooped up with gasket maker as well. I got a whole engine seal kit but no motivation to fix it.

I've found that the most common oil leaks on the 22re are the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket. Both result from over tightening the fasteners. The oil pan is tricky to fix due to needing to straighten the sheet metal.

I fix the leaks I can locate.

I've got more important things to worry about than a little leak. Anything that leaks enough to leave a puddle gets fixed. A random drip now and again isn't worth my time to deal with. I clean my engines regularly regardless of leaks.

If it's not leaving a puddle, it's not a leak, it's marking it's territory. Mine does it proudly everywhere it's parked. :D

Of course, when I get around to rebuilding it I hope I can get rid of all of them.

Is this a way of reminding everyone you just rebuilt your engine Kertwood :) .
I have to keep my work truck leak less since I pull on to private driveway daily. My play stuff gets fixed if it really bad. If I can spray it clean before a meet and it stay clean, no worries

No, not at all. As a matter of fact I had to replace the front main after I broke my engine in. It slung oil every where during breakin. Luckily I had a Japan front seal and that solved the problem after installed.

I just agree with Litneon and fix the ones I can locate. That goes for all my vehicles regardless of age and what their used for. Just doesn't make much sense to me spending money on other stuff like suspension or music when my vehicle leaks, pours or drips any kind of fluid. But again to each is their own.

I fix the bad ones. I "use" about a quart a month, and I run alot of miles. Part is my piston rings wearing out from the last five years of 6k rpm pulls. Some drips off the oil pan but I've never gotten those to perfect seal. Again, the pans are kinda flimsy. Id like to make a new flat flange and weld the pan to it. Perfect seals.

Anyways, I don't bother with most. I just clean the motor and top off the oil.

Exactly. Its not a leak unless you have to top off the oil and check the gas level. My time is worth more than the half a quart thats lost between oil changes would take to fix.

Lol this thread makes me feel better about my vehicles. I have maybe 3-4 drips between 5 vehicles and 4 other 4 stroke engines.
