I got this issue with my Yota and getting stumped. When I start it after it's been sitting for a few days and have to press the gas pedal it runs rich and smokes (black soot)like crazy for a few mins and idles high. If it starts with out pressing the pedal runs normal and no smoke and idles normal? Truck runs great when warmed up (does idle higher than I would like about 1200-1500 but if I hit the throttle goes down)
I've already replaced everything fuel tank, fuel lines, filter, fuel pump, new carb, T stat, and replaced the vacuum lines. Even a new ignition module. I did the head gasket about 600 miles ago. No coolant loss and no oil loss?
I haven't messed with the carb adjustment yet and only thing I'm
concerned about was when I put the carb on I not sure if I wired
the fuel solenoid correct (maybe wires are backwards?) Any help
    Would be great. Thanks

Not sure if the timing would affect it but its worth checking. Also check the throttle cable/linkage.

Sounds like a choke circuit out of adjustment. I haven't checked on my Toyota cause my choke isn't engaging but on other vehicles you have to pump them once to set the choke before starting, sounds like that's part of your problem. If you set the choke it runs pig rich till the choke kicks off.

I did spray some wd40 on the throttle cable last week (helped a little) If I put it down by hand it idles
Down some but hit the pedal it idles up again. When it stops raining gonna try to adjust it down. I did put new plug wire and dist cap on it recently too, but didn't adjust the timing at all. I'm not sure on adjusting the choke? Has rivets on it? I bought this carb brand new aisin was suppose to be already adjusted? Thanks for the input
gonna try these items see if it helps.

The idle issue could be as simple as a bad engine ground.
