fellow Toyota fans, I really need accurate input on this. I just bought 17x8 rims with new tires for my truck, the offset is 45mm, when I tried to put them on my 91 2wd toy they fit fine in the rear but the front wheels don't clear. the top of the inside of the wheel hits the little grease tip on the part that bolts control arm to top of the spindle. now I found 32mm spacers that bolt to the hub and then have studs which would make my rim technically a 17x8 with 13+ offset. will that make the rim rub on the inside of the fender? will 32mm be enough or not enough?
You could replace your upper ball joints with a pair that don't have grease zerks on them? Or take the fittings off?
im not 100% if I can do all that or not and I don't want to go buy parts that I cant or don't need to change. im test fitting some 1.5" spacers tonight to see if they clear or not. im keeping my fingers crossed.
You can't just take the zerk fittings off; the grease will squeeze out. Toyotas normally come from the factory with plugs, not zerk fittings. I'm sure you can find a few at your local junkyard...
Argh, so i just tried to fit 1.5" spacers and the inner bore was too small. Im getting frustrated. Lol im not sure its a zerk or just the bolt for thectie rod but my rim hits it and its more or less an 1/4 of an inch from sitting flush on thexhub. I guess ill have to wait till this weekend to put it on stands and get under and see what i need to do. All i wanted was my 17's to fit! Lol
Pics would really help here. I'm having a hard time picturing how a 17" wheel hits a zerk or tie rod bolt in any situation.
Ya pic would totoally help, ill get pics his weekend when i put my truck on stands at my buddy's shop.
