Does that mean we lose torque?

Gear ratios between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are much evenly spaced. 4th is the same 1:1 ratio. 5th gear's overdrive is .783, as far as I know, it is the best offer of all the W5x transmissions. You should be able to cruise at a lower RPM.

    In other words...

    I LOVE MY W58!

@rida4christ - yes a little bit; however, a little bit more "top-end" freeway speeds is easier achieved and less stress on the engine. it also makes good sense to do this swap when switching to lower rear end gears (which is the biggest factor affecting torque feel) -- IMO--. i am currently in search of a 58 but no luck yet.

4.30 is standard equipment for 22re/automatic trans 4x4. 3.90 is standard 79-81 4x4 with a L45 4 speed. 4.38 is standard late 81-83 4x4 with L50 or L52 5 speed. 4.56 is V6 4x4 with automatic standard trim. 4.88 is V6 4runner with auto trans and factory swing out spare tire carrier and 31" tires.

Pretty much everything else got 4.10/4.11's :D

my auto was paired with a 7.5" 3.73 setup, the gear ratio was balanced.
    then I got a V6 2wd 8" 3.41/.42?
and completed it with the W58.
The Auto's 4th gear overdrive was a bit shorter than the W58's. The Auto + the 3.41/.42's was horrible, it was too much for the 22RE. It was a really wide gear setup.

    The W58 remedied that.
