I picked up a 90 xtra cab with a blown auto trans for $800, The truck used to be a stereo comp/show truck in the late 90's early 2000's.

Jacked up the truck on trailer to start removing the trans, there was nor room in the shop to fit it in so working outside in -10c weather.

the new used transmission I picked up for $400, the old transmission was completley shot, the shifter was stiff and wouldnt click into gears, truck runs in park but as soon as you moved shifter down motor just stalled out.

old trans out next to new one and ready to go back it, only get to work on it a few hours a night after work, the snow and cold make the job take a little bit longer.
