Never heard of a 3bt. Theres a 4bt. All depends on what you wanna do with it. The tdi's can get some descent power with some mods and they sell adapter plates for those. But they have alot of electronics. 4bts are heavy and alot of frame reinforcements will be needed. Theres also the om617 which im doing its a mercedes turbo diesel.

Yeah I'd opt for the 1.6 turbo. Light, and can make power.

Please pick something easy/powerful/reliable and do an amazing write-up!

I spent a few hours looking on craigslist for a good LS motor last night but I think a diesel swap would be much more better'er. I've done a little searching on here but is there any good write-ups on a diesel swap that will work for our application. I know how to dump a 6bt/4bt into a scout but this is different.

I grew up on a farm so I'm familiar with the maintenance and benefits of a diesel but not familiar with anything other than domestic brand, which won't fit as easy.

There's a bunch on yotatech. A lot are doing the om617 just cause it's all mechanical and descent power and economy. So far the om617 has been quite simple but with the Z and body drop its making fittment a little more difficult.
