Hi guys, my name is Dale and I have owned a bone stock 1988 hilux for three years now. I wanted to save money up and buy a 3rd gen Supra and mod it but for the cost of that car I figured I may as well just mod the hilux. I was on Youtube and saw HOSHPOSH's video of his 79 smurf blue and clicked the link that first brought me to this site. I need advice on how to lower my truck. The only way I know how to lower a vehicle is with coilovers and clearly they dont make them for an 88 Hilux. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks guys!
ALSO, just so I'm clear, I am NOT looking to bag my truck. I'd like to do a similar set up like HOSHPOSH had, I just have no clue how to do any of this. I'll post some pics of the truck later
Welcome To TM! Not sure what setup he has but I lowered my '93 with Belltech 2" drop spindles, 3" blocks and Toxic drop shocks at all 4 corners. Kept most of the factory ride
Thanks for the welcome! I spent all day yesterday looking into it and I'm going to lower the 88 on DJM 3" LCA's and Belltech 3" drop leaf springs. Also plan on doing fender mirrors and possibly bosozuku style exhaust. Trying to give the truck an oldschool JDM look. Also going to mobille sometime soon to look at some 15x10 Mickey Thompson wheels
There's some photos of her now, bone stock. I'm going to be ordering Belltech 3" drop leaf springs for the rear and DJM 3" drop LCA's for the front. I was just underneath the truck looking around and I was hoping someone could walk me through changing the leaf springs. It looks a bit more complicated than anticipated. Do you simply swap them out? Theres a piece that kinda looks like a shock going from the frame to the springs, is that gonna mount right up to the new ones? I have yet to look at the LCA's but I imagine they're pretty easy. Also I plan on buying some 15x10 Mickey Thompson wheels with a -42 offset. Are they going to fit? Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated. Maybe theres a walkthrough somewhere for the springs?
