I'm a utility at a mill that makes LVL for floor joists and other engineered I joists.the utility part just means I can run all the machines there.
Electrical Engineer. I've been doing the physical drawing of semiconductor chips for 13 yrs. Been a garage tinkerer since I was a kid.
Electrical Engineer for 25years now (woofda!). I find the comments from the UTI grads interesting. You're not alone. I have a friend who graduated from a private cooking school (Cordon Bleu, or something like that) and I knew a guy who gradurated from an electronics tech school (ITT Tech?). Seems everyone says the same thing, that if they had to do it all over, they would not go to school first and that they would have been better off at CC or on-the-job training. Thanks for the info about UTI. Every time I see their commercials, I think about signing up after I retire in a couple of years...
I guess I lucked out on my education. A small private(non state funded) technical school in Colorado Springs was looking to recruit a freshman class. Had previously been founded to retrain retired military. Parents were moving there after I graduated high school so picked this place out of a list for ACT scores to go to. School offered to pay for half and I was in. Turned out to be awesome. All non engineering classes were taught by people who understood what we were going to school for and all engineering classes were under 20 students. You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for a good education or good job placement.
fix and fly on the mv-22, 5 years in and will probably move back to the east coast and work on them as a civilian.
