Hey guys I am looking for a 2WD standard cab taco for a daily driver. I miss my static pickup so much but also love it bagged so much so I though i would just get another one. I do have a few questions that I asked over at customtacos.com but there forum is not that great. I can not post pictures or to other build threads and really havent found a thread I can post to other than the one I started. Not too impressed so I can back here with my questions. Would you suggest a 1995-2000 or 2000.5-2004? Is the suspension the same on both? Which is better to make some more power? Turbo or Supercharger setup?
well if i could do it over i would get a 70's the ones with round headlights they just have so much more style and arent so mexi looking, thats just me though
I'm a big fan of the early tacos, the 95-00. The styling is great, they didn't get larger by much, and had two great motors. I don't know as much about taco suspensions. Id also imagine better deals on the older ones.
Old trucks like mine are cool and all, but finding parts can be very tough. Even general stuff the parts store should have is often out of production. And it takes replacing everything to make them fun. And after a lowering job, motor swap to 22r, better brakes, ect you still have an old truck that's hard to maintain. I love mine, but I often wish it was newer.
Yeah I even struggle with the age of my truck. The rust is getting bad, the motor is ticking pretty bad, the paint is haggard and ect. I am looking for something I can leave pretty much stock looking(well besides a static drop, wheels, and probably bucket seats) with great paint and low miles that is reliable enough to make long drives with no worries. Trust me I do love the old ones, I offered a guy $500 for a non running 1969 hilux. The body was mostly in good condition but the interior was pretty much non existent. He declined and had another guy offer him $800 so I am looking at a different direction.
depend on what front end you like. personally i like the 98-00. the 95-96 had a diff front end, the 01-04 had the more bubble front. i think the suspensions are the same in all years, exce[pt the rear leafs are diff on 95-97 from the 98-04. but talk to beefed he works on a bunch of tacos,
I wouldn't worry about the front sheet metal, you can always change that. And 4runner parts. Lots of ways to unique that whip lol
Are the front ends pretty easy to swap on this year gap? I do like the 98 to 2000 and 01 to 04 but hell i like them all, it is a toyota! haha. I Hope beefed chimes in soon! says his opinion.
as previously mentioned, the chassis is pretty much the same except for the rear leafs on the early two years. only differences were interior door panels, tail lights, mirrors, the emissions equipment, the front clips, fenders, grill, headlights, bumpers and valances.... and yes. they are all interchangeable. otherwise transmissions, motors are all the same 95.5-04. if yer looking for a daily, look into extra cabs. the room is much more driver friendly for ANY distances.
Well I do have 2 Honda Civics with about 100k miles on it including my ep3 with the k20 engine so I have a 4 seater for traveling and hauling people but I need a pickup I can use as a second daily driver and a truck to haul stuff for house work and stuff like that. I am not interested in the extended cab because I like the look of the standard cabs better. Smaller the better! haha thats why I dont want anything newer than a 2004. The tacomas get too big for me.
