Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, just got my truck not too long ago, and was wondering on blocks and just using the torsion bars, how low can my '86 go? Pictures welcome of yours. Also, if anyone's got any cheap bags, I'm on the lookout. Here's the truck stock height...
Welcome steezy....good start and truck can go all the way to the floor if that's what u want especially if ur gonna bag it....I'm running 2" blocks leafs D arched...front just torsions not too bad for a daily 15x8.5 rims I scrape everywhere...
To be honest I got the truck with the leafs D arched...then I added the 2" block wanna go lower but have to notch it 1st
to be honest, a notch is going to be your biggest limiting factor. unless you get one, 4-5 inches of drop is about your limit. ive done lots of trucks over the years and a notch is honestly the first mod i would suggest if you truly want to go anything lower than 4 inches. a 4/4 drop however is a nice start and really easy using a 4" block for the rear, a bj flip and a torsion rekey for the front with some shortened shocks.
I had a 4/4 drop on my truck for about 2 years on 18's and loved it. I would rub up front and some times hit the frame on bigger bumps. I liked the 4/4 drop with 4 inch angled blocks, drop spindles, and a ball joint flip but had to go lower. I went bagged to get almost as low as I wanted but a notch on a 5 to 6 inch drop is pretty good looking.
I bought my bag setup from AVS and it wasnt cheap but i went for higher end parts and 2 compressors and 8 valves. If you would like to you can check out my build. Shows a lot. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/build-up-project-threads-25/finally-my-build-8365/
bagging is not cheap. simple as that. average bags run about $70 and up... there is allot involved in bagging a truck since you are redesigning your entire suspension system. you gotta know what yer doing when fabbing this stuff because it affects the way your truck drives in a bigger way than just a static drop. average bag jobs run around 4500-6500 depending on who does the work and the area yer in. like i said, this is "average". good work aint cheap, and cheap work aint good. i usually charge around $220 bucks for a notch if that helps. my notches will clear up to a 8" drop comfortably.
you change the position of the rear keys on the torsion bars. ive yet to make a write up on this but i will soon. its a bit complicated to explain without visuals, but easy to do.
Never been to one actually. I'm out in the sticks with all the hicks. I'm the lowest anything in town lol. Anyways hit me up if ya need a hand. Graham aint too far away.
Hell yeah, cruise to the meets sometime dude. It gets nasty up there, that's why I'm lowering my 86 so I can cruise with everybody. Ha.
