Ive adjusted the valves twice now according to the haynes manual. Anybody have any advice on the noise? Should you be able to hear a slight tick or should it be silent. Also i have a brand new head installed
From what I've heard it's normal to have a little tick. I've had mine adjusted by a mechanic, and it still has it. It runs fine, so I'll have to learn to live with it.
Haha thanks bud. Ive heard it too down the line, it doesnt bother me i just wanted to make sure it was safe and not a mistake on my part. Thanks again
I had the same problem and then my mechanic suggested i use Premium 93 Octane gas and that got ride of the ticking noise.. for a few cents more at the pump it was worth it plus my Hilux runs better than before.. my MPG increased.. Use PREMIUM GAS.... Sunoco is like 93.5 Octane
Is that a new rocker arm assembly also. The lobes get worn .But yes a slight ticking is very common for our motors.
yup very common for our motor i have changed the valve adjusting screws on mine and its still the same i was told by my mechanic to use full synthetic oil havent got around to doing so because i just did a connecting rod bearing job with new oil and filter regular 10-30 oil
Also, if you use an oil additive such as the lucas or hyperlube additive it took my valve ticking completely away
make sure to not overtighten your valve cover bolts too, since the valve cover is bolted to the rocker assembly, if you overtighten it that can affect the valve adjustment.
Thank you all very much. Since its so common in sure you answered a lot of new toyota owners concern. Lol
I'm pretty sure that if you use the rubbers that seal the valve cover bolts, there is no way to deform the rocker assembly. The cover itself deforms and causes leaks when they get over tightened. There are 10 large head bolts (or studs in my case) holding the assembly firmly in place. The cam exerts way more force on that assembly than you ever could with those four nuts. Just sayin'...
Yeah had same ticking sound.. Had valves adjusted.. Got quiter then a few months later noise started again and was louder..pulled valve cover to find 2 lobes on cam not getting oil and wore down cam lobes 1/4 inch.. Damn it..lol
