My 1995 Extended Cab Truck has those weird decals going down the side, and the Toyota insignia on the tailgate has come off in places. All the decals look pretty bad. I want to remove all of the decals and I intend to replace the Toyota on the tailgate.

What is the best way to remove the decals without hurting the paint? And where is the best place to obtain a new Toyota decal for the bed?

    Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the info. I was getting on here to see about the best way to remove the side stripes. I hope the paint will buff up so the stripes location isn't visible.

As for the Toyota decals, If you can't find them, any local graphics shop should be able to make them.

this is what i used on the side stripes and "toyota" on gate...mine were too dry and old and crusty to peel with a heat gun...

worked really good, i think it was like 20 bucks or so at an auto paint supply house but i was told napa auto has them also.

as for replacement gate sticker, try ebay.

Thanks, tizted and everyone else. My friend here in Dallas suggested that 3M wheel, which I had never heard of.....my decals are old and very dry, too. But it sure seems like that much abrasion would hurt the underlying paint. Does it? I was familiar with the heat gun, too, and used my wifes hair-dryer on a portion of my crunched fender where I could experiment. It took the decal off pretty well, but I got worried that the heat my hurt the paint, and the underlying adhesive is still there.

Hmmmmmm........guess I'll get one of those 3M wheels. The decals look like hell anyway.

i used it on my 89 and it didnt do any damage to the paint.

used it on the rea hatch of a wagon to remove so residue left from a lost emblem and came out great.

it might have some color change, where the paint under is darker than your truck paint though, just from sun exposure.

my tailgate has the "toyota" ghost image, lol, at certain angles you can see the word but others you cant.

Bump --- if I strip the old silver side decals off my '93 forest green XCab, will I have much of a ghost effect left behind, or can I buff that out?

mine still has a ghost image that can be seen, i have buffed by hand with compound and used a d/a but still there..20 years of "shade" where the toyota lettering was makes quite a difference on the rest of the exposed paint.

Is it pretty visible or do you have to really be looking for it to see it?

    Is it visible in photos?
