Can someone post a picture of what their stock 2wd pickup lower steering shaft looks like? I have a feeling mine was modified after a 3" body lift was added. Thanks.
Look at the end that meets the steering gearbox, if it has a spacer, then it was extended for the body lift...
1/4" thick rubber spacer is a rag joint. Thats normal. And I am all for dropping stuff low, but a lifted 2wd does have its uses too. Some people want simple mechanicals or are working with what they have. SD is a guru on these, I'm sure he will chime back with some pics.
What year is it? Everything looks normal to me, except the lock bolt on the upper half of the shaft is missing. Side note, is your brake master cylinder held to the booster with 2 or 4 bolts? I didn't know the later years were aluminum. Id like to swap my 81 master for that. Back on topic. Depending on price, you may wanna replace the rag joint. It looks a bit stretched. The body lift may have been pulling it out a little to still reach the firewall.
'86 2WD, No power steering. Hope it helps. Edit: Oh, right. I got here from the top page without looking at what gen this was for....
I like lifted 2WD trucks but not with a body lift. Suspension lifts is what I would do. IE: Prerunner trucks, desert racing, or for jumping.
Lock bolt was taken out to see if the shaft will move in and out but it looks to be welded in place. Are you shafts welded? I have two bolts that go through the shaft. Yeah, I'm not sure how many bolts go into the master cylinder, I'll check later.
I don't understand why anyone would lift a 2WD... 4WD, I get that but 2WD? That is like installing a single exhaust on a V8 instead of a dual.
