I am not sure if this would go in here or in the drivetrain area but here is my problem. I lowered my truck with 2 in blocks in the rear and now everytime I throw a few things in the bed my driveshaft rubs/grinds on my frame making a really loud and annoying sound while it is. I have asked a few friends and they have no idea why it is doing this. Do you guys have any advice?

 

Rubs on the frame?

 

Set up a pit you can drive over. Get the truck up over it. Load it up. Get under there and look where it rubs.

Or you could just look at whatever is closest to the shaft. Use a mirror on a stick and a light to look around properly. It doesn't sound like rocket surgery.

 

Sometimes the driveline hits a crossmember or the back edge of the trans tunnel on the cab. Never heard of it happening with 2" blocks but with a load it could sag the back low enough. You can also stick the back on some jackstands under the axle and load the bed up with weight. See what makes contact, but having some extra room to slide under it

 

something dont sound right.... Im on a 4" drop and Ive loaded myself too the absolute max several times and my driveshaft never hit a thing...

Yeah it does seem odd. Maybe you have some exhaust bracket or something from a previous owner.

And do you have 3 leafs in your pack? Monoleaf and 2" blocks is alot of drop. I have mono and 5" blocks and never rub, but I have a longbed with a 2 part driveline so no cab or crossmember clearance.

 

I did look under it already. It rubs against a cross member that looks to be apart of the frame. I do have a picture though. Any ideas on what could cause it to rub?

 

Thats a pretty large diameter driveline. Does your trans have any spacers under the back? That could cause it.

I would say to take the driveline out, and find a nice bigger hammer and try to clearance that crossmember up a bit. Or if you have welder access, a small notch and reweld.

What engine/trans do you have? Im thinking it might be a V6 or something to require the larger drive line.

 

It's a standard cab issue, won't happen on a extra cab. Your cheapest cure is to get some air shocks on it for you when you're loaded. I'm sure it's not rubbing when you're empty. Air shocks will be cheaper and easier than notching the cross member. I notch them, that one isn't too fun, it's tight in there.

 

Its just a 22r no v6. The only way is with air shocks huh? Damn. I wanted to go at least another inch lower in the rear but it rubd with no load on 3inch drop.

 

Your leaf springs must be wore slap out

 

Yeah, that doesn't sound right.

I've got 3" blocks and have had my truck loaded to the point of frame sitting on axle and NO rubbing...

 

What's your leaf setup? Both leafs and overload like stock?

 

What about trans? I don't know if the automatics are shorter than the manuals. If its shorter you have a longer driveline and that may be enough to cause it to rub. Or maybe you're leaf pack is way worn out from being loaded down too heavy and too often.
