Front: Torsion crank but soon BJ flip Rear: 3 inch blocks This is as low as ill go. Running old KYB shocks that are more than likely blown
ok, front you will want to run a shock off a 92 gmc sonoma. part #32132 from monroe. or part# 413515 from pro comp's line of toxic shocks. for the rear, you have a choice to either get a monroe air shock part# MA803. or if you dont want an air shock, a standard replacement for your truck will do just fine. the reason is, your using blocks to lower the ride, the spring plates stay in the same location so the travel in the shock does not change, so no need for a shorter shock.
ma 803 is a VW shock, and shorter than a stock length Toyota shock. Also, the bushing's on 803's have a metal sleeve that needs to be pressed out, then the bushing drilled bigger, or bushings swapped out, to fit the shock mount on the truck. A process that could be a bit much for some beginner's. (see 2nd & 3rd attachment below) This is why I said MA727, because the bushings are correct, and it's the correct air shock for these trucks in stock form, or using blocks, or even with some leaf drop. They'll work fine with leaf drop, and provide more lift than the shorter 803's since they'll be a couple inches longer. I really don't bother with the 803's anymore. Oriely's couldn't even find a Monroe part # in their book for this 98 Tacoma in the 3rd link below, and I'm sure would show nothing for earlier Toyota trucks, so I just told him to get MA727 since I knew they'd fit. They worked great. The 3rd link below I used MA727 and pulled the overload leafs, because they weren't necessary anymore since it now has air assist, and kept both stock leafs. This provided a small amount of leaf drop, and then I made 4-1/2" blocks, for a total of approximately 5-1/2" rear drop. I did this setup to avoid pulling a leaf and him monoleafing around with 2 streetbikes in back. I felt this was a safer setup. Final step would be to pick up a Air Lift kit part # 25804 and you'll have a sweet setup that can be raised and lowered on demand.
