im new to this forum but not to toyotas, i have4 cars and 2 of them and i still am young xD and living at home i work at a machine shop and like to tinker with yotas! recently rebuilt a 22r and cranking around 190 hp (about) im trying to sell one of my toyotas, a 94 with a 22re hopefully i am excepted here ;P
well lots of parts from lce, naming basically everythng i did, i bored it .020 i got flat top forged wiesco pistons, stainless valves, with 3 angle valve job, port and polishing, dual coil valve springs, high lift cam (.437 or somthing like that) pace setter header, weber 38 carb, electric cooling fan, eliminated all emision stuff, light weight flywheel, high performance clutch.. thats about it, but like i said "about" 190, i plan on dyno ing it someday but for now its just a rough guestamate, it has no problem braking the wheels loose tho
heres my truck, custom painted/airbrushed ripped metal and skulls, i did this when i was 15, before i even got a lisence haha somtime i will get better pictures of it
Unless you've got some extensive work done to the engine, it's hard to make significant gains on the engine past about 160hp if naturally aspirated. Even so, when you start running into the higher HP numbers with these engines, you generally tend to push the power band up the rpm range (this is a generalization). Part of the issue you run into is getting air into and out of the chambers. It's only 2 valves per cylinder, so you simply don't have the potential airflow that you could get out of a 4 valve per cylinder. The numbers that'd be interesting to me is where your torque curve sits. Torque is where you get your 'go' from without having to wind the **** out of your engine (as you do with Hondas). ...and 150hp is more than you'd think on tiny trucks like these. If you keep approximate same percent gains on torque, i'd say you've got more than you realize. The drivetrain probably robs about 20-30hp (guess-math, it might be a little more depending on the truck), so if you've got about 60-80 usable HP stock, then adding 50 more usable HP is a massive improvement. So, what have you done to the engine so far?
well ive written a bunch before lol and thanks for all that information! ig i was jus thinking rather then knowing, but the power bad IS way higher, it sorta bogs at rpms under about 2000, after that tho, non really stops it. if u would compare how much it lays u bac in the seat id say close to double, but it was down for a whole winter so i got used to my other truck. for the valve train, i did a 3 angle valve job (60-45-15) on the seet, and (45-30) on the valve.. im pretty sure thats a 3 angle valve job, idk all the terms, i also ported and polished alot and bought stainless valves witch idk if that really makes a difference in flow, but maybe a little. tbh it was some extencive work, but it was also the first foriegn 4 cylender i ever rebuilt, and obviously you lern more, the more you do.
Did you port the intake? Did you polish the combustion chamber? (don't know if doing the chamber helps, just sounds fancy lol)
I think all that extra HP is coming from that rad spoiler in the back.J/k bro.Welcome to TM.Any internal after market parts in there like a cam or flywheel etc?
i ported and polished the head (intake and exaust) and also the intake, and yes a little in the chamber, i also expiramented a little, i made a very small little trail between the spark plug hole and the valves, i herd that on a small single cylender engine it helps with power, like guiding the spark, so i tried it, dono how much of a difference or if it made ne at all, but i did it xD. and YES spoilers make EVERYTHING faster! xD haha, i got forged flat tops, oversized stainless valves, dual coil valve springs, high lift cam, and weber 38 carb, and a 12lbs flywheel with high performance clutch.. alot of stuff to name xP
For folks that have not built a 22r and have not experienced the insane improvement . From aftermarket internals . Completely altering the lazy ness of a 22r . . These motors will roll out when built right .. If any body rembers score series racing toyssport in the early 90s were we're 22r motors were out gunning 240 horse contenders on the track and dominating road corse events for several years 2 valves or four valves .. Depends on cylinder volume consumption just think Chevys 350 it's been producing hot rod power sense 1953 and its dinosaur technology
