hey all another complete newb australian here to annoy yas all im wanting to replace my distributer cap, leads etc and want to go bigger and better than stock carbed 22r setup im struggling to figure out what to purchase from lce perfromance but want biggest and best setup without going to hypo distributer they sell please help me as im a complete newb with these 22r engines lol also i keep seeing HEI coil spoken bout on lce perf site regards dave
Stock is fine for a mild or stock motor . I'm using stock dizzy and cap and all msd products for ignition Msd blaster coil and msd 6a-l box ..only reason I did most of that was for the rev limit and I needed a hot spark for how I degreed my cam setup has a lot of idle overlap wich causes mis fires . But I'd say it helped.. it will shock the sheet out of you if your not watching yourself
That's what I ment no reason to replace the dizzy the only next best upgrade is a trigger wheel and do away with it competently witch I plan to do sooon
A good high output coil like accel or msd for starters, some bigger plug wires, like Taylor 8.2mm exact fits, ngk spark plugs. All available from summitracing.com an msd 6a box replaces the stock igniter and allows rev limiting with the AL version.
I don't wanna bash LC they make good stuff but you'll pay double ..there are other options that have been around in the aftermarket world much longer than lc and are adaptable to the Toyota platform ..no reason to buy a aftermarket dizzy a quality cap and rotor add a good set of plugs and wires and any aftermarket universal ignition products such as igniter boxes and coils (optional) and you'll save hundreds there's no doubt they have researched there products ..but just can't pay that kinda cash for the same thing I can get for way less ... With the same if not better results .and if the motors mild to stock save the cash for other mods they'll net you better gains
so im wondering what high output coil i should go its for carbed 22r what am i looking for? which is the best from msd range and the best from accel?
I have always run either the accel super coil or the msd blaster 2. I prefer the accel. They're each about 42k volts. Stock is around 20-25k volts. They fit a stock mount and wire up the same.
im gonna go msd but what do i need to remove that silver box thingy thats ontop of my stock coil and also do i need the blaster 2 with the inverter?
The box attached stays. That's the "brain" and tells the coil when to fire. Don't need any inverter I know of. Blaster 2, its usually red. Maybe chrome. Parts stores usually have one on the shelf too.
I run a flamethrower chrome coil on my truck. I use the factory igniter and dizzy. On my mercedes I run a msd ford tfi coil (got it at pep boys for 35). I like the tfi one better, but you will need a bracket to mount it. And my ignition has been fine for years.
I've ran several ignition setups over the years from mallory, msd, accel and all sorts of factory setups. Best bang for the buck hands down is a good aftermarket high output coil with a GM hei ignition module replacing the igniter. I ran that on my 78 after the msd 6a puked and I'd say the hei setup out sparked the msd by a long shot. No more hard starting and no more stuttering above 5k rpms. One thing to keep in mind is if you swap in a high output ignition you aren't really gaining much unless you open up the spark gap. The factory yota stuff works great for 90% of people but it can be expensive to replace when it dies.
