is it the emergency brake light that comes on when you turn the switch?

Check your brake master cylinder level switch and your handbrake lever switch; either one will cause your dash brake indicator light to come on.

i know this is an old thread, but the brake light on my '77 comes on while i'm driving it. It seems that going over bumps moves the handbrake handle just far enough to set off the sensor. pushing the handle back in turns the light off again. possibly what could be happening for you.
