85-90mph, but you're not WOT the whole time.

even at WOT, the 22re can't use 3".

It's probably a lot less of a percentage than you imagine.

According to this 22re engine spec info, the maximum theoretical flow rate of a 22r engine is 271 CFM at 6500 rpm.

According to this exhaust flow chart 2 1/4" will flow an estimated total CFM of 408, with 2" coming in at 318.

Even at 90 mph, you probably aren't turning 6500 rpm and since the exhaust velocity is lower in the 2 1/4" pipe, the "benefit" of using the larger pipe at high rpms doesn't outweigh the loss of low end torque.

    But that's just my opinion.;)

Yeah, but 2" just isn't as manly as 3".

Wellll, actually... You aren't too far off from Yamaha's EXUP valve in their FZR1000 (1989~1995).

However, Yamaha put the butterflies in the header collector.

My cbr1000rr had a flapper in the exhaust to control noise ...it lasted about 2 miles and ten minutes before it was in the trash from date of purchase ........in fact all liter bikes and some 600 use some sort of motorized butterfly to reduce noise there about 2inches in diameter and can be wired to a switch and are cheap if your actually considering baffle controlled exhaust ..
