im looking for someone to trade with me. i have the stock v6 rear end out of my truck with 3:44 gears, in good shape, no noises. im looking for a rear end out of a 4cyl 4speed truck with the 3:07 gears. mainly because i need the bump up in gears again due to my 14 low pro tires.

im looking to trade straight across for someone that has a rear end in good equivalent condition. for those who dont know if you have this rear end or not, send me a picture of your vin tag from the door and i can tell if it has the mentioned rear end im looking for. im in SAN DIEGO, SOCAL.

    thanks,
    -SD :waytogo:

thats what my gearing feels like right now considering my tire size, i went down 15% in gearing back here... my gears are super short n quick... i tap out around 70mph at 3000rpms... as to where i would used to cruise 70 mph at around 2500 rpms..

70 at 3 grand isn't bad at all. I'll be lucky to see that once my junk is done. I'm likely stepping up to 17's out back to keep the sidewall short with a taller tire to compensate for 4.56's even with a W58 so don't feel bad.

    2900 @70 is stock gearing for a 4 cyl 5 speed...

I'd consider a trade since I have what you're looking for and I wouldn't mind something a little shorter since I'm still using stock or larger size tires. (2400 @ 70) it just barely more than maintains speed (and my 22re runs pretty good for bone stock)

BUT 2500 miles is a bit of a trip just for that.

    lol... yea....

with stock tires and gearing the truck would cruise a comfy 80mph at around 2900-3000rpms. now that speed has dropped to around 65-70 at the same rpm range. going to a 4spd rear would bring it back to stock range.

the thing is i also have the v6. so the motor is happier at lower rpm on the freeway.. at least for gas mileage purposes...

It'll likely be a few weeks till I have tike to get to it but if you haven't found the diff I'll split shipping with you. I can probably come up with a use for your diff and mine will just be too tall for my usage.

    I do 2000rpm's at 60mph with 3.41's (3.42's?) on 25" tires.
    I think I turn 2500 at 70 and 3000 at 80.

let me know... im gonna find out if the v6 and 4cyl 8" thirds are interchangeable...

thats about what my gearing used to be... but keeping in mind you also run a tall wheel and tire combo..

They are interchangeable. The only hang up is the occasional clearancing needed for the ring gear depending on the gear ratio being used. The diff stud pattern is the same with all 8" diffs.

Well that's good news then! Makes the swap even easier.

Yes 8" diffs all have 30 spline shafts so swaps are simple.

There are some odd bits out there too. Such as an fj80 high pinion non e locker uses V6 bearings but a 4 cylinder style 2 spider carrier. Doesn't seem like a big deal till you realize that it can be swapped into a standard V6 case so cheap 4 cylinder lockers will drop in and it's 2 spider diff is MUCH easier to weld than the 4 spider V6 diff. Vise versa you can put a low pinion 4 spider diff in a high pinion case. I've done both swaps and it worked out perfect. :D
