So I plan to put a 318 dodge V8 into my truck this summer. I can use V6 dakota bellhousing and clutch parts to mate to a toyota trans. Depending what year, I can use the stock W series, or using later parts, use the R series. I am not familiar with those though. I know R150s came in V6 pickups in the 4th and 5th gens (84-88/89-95). Is the clutch arm on the same side or the opposite? How far from the bellhousing is the shifter? I know the R154 is a strong and popular trans, but I thought the R150 might be similar strength. If its not worth the effort, I can see how long a W5* lasts. Would make it easier not having to change any of the mounts and clutch pedal/lines. Thanks for the input.
Make your life easy and put a NV3500 from a later dakota behind it. They came behind V6 and V8's which share the same bellhousing pattern. The 3500 is basically just a HD R150 so you can still act like it's toyota.
I will keep that in mind. The 87-91 V6 bellhousing fits the V8 dodge engine and w trans. 92-2000 for the R series. Hoping a W will survive for a while
Depends on how warmed up the 318 is and how you drive (and how sticky your tires are). Over in the cressida/supra scene the rule of thumb is the Ws are good for 300 hp pretty realiably, 400 if you you're careful and Rs are good for a lot more.
