Strange noise on my rear its like somethings locking and it almost sounds like im pulling e brake and its only coming out from the left side
I had a brushing noise comeing from my rearend.... Sounded like a high spot in the drum, scraping the shoe at low speeds. At higher speeds it was a whoomp whoomp whoomp like a tire with a bubble....And it sounded like it was coming from the front end on the freeway..... Ended up being a trashed wheel bearing in the rear end....
Could be a sticky wheel cylinder dragging the brake at some times and not at others. I would take the drum off, readjust the shoes and just inspect it all. Any fluid signs under the drum means a cylinder leaking.
I'm not to sure how to explain it....it does it when it wants to its like a screeching noise it's not really that constant Not sure how that sounds ill try and take out the drum and c wats up with it it's only on the drivers side though. No sign of fluids I tried to take out the pumpkin screw but it not the one where u put in the 3/8 drive in its an octagon bolt so I can't get the b**ch out to check if they got gear oil
Mine was a b**ch like yours.... i ended up getting a socket on it that felt nice and didnt feel like it would strip or spin off, put a breaker bar on it, and then i lifted the truck with a jack to get it to pop. Actually, i think i jacked up the axle a little and put a jack stand under the breaker bar....Then lowered the axle to pop the bolt.
^ smart thinking. I've done similar. Use the jack on the breaker bar. Anyways taking the drum off is as simple as taking the wheel off and the one hold down screw if its still there. Slack is adjusted at the bottom part. Smack the drum on the ground a few times to knock the dust out.
I'd check all of the above and check your drums stuck whel cylinder broken return spring on the shoes if one breaks the others tugg on the shoe kicking it out towards the drum .. Had a similar problem after I replaced my original rear drum shoes at 220,000 miles < there was nothing left I mean not even the backing plate
Noise comes and goes but goes away when I pull to the side reverse pull forward an then leave then its gone wtf is that?
No not really no vibration at all just a screeching noise and it sounds like its only coming from the left side of my rear if only I can make a vid but it comes when it wants to I have a vid I needa upload
heres a vid mostly wind but u can hear the screeching noise im talking about hope u guys can help.. 20130624_180006_zpsb5b5c015.mp4 Video by tracyaj09 | Photobucket
Sounds like something in the drum brake is rubbing or come loose .. I've never heard of a diff making a noise like that ., proably just experiencing some broken or loose peaces inside the drum ..not to bad
Can't watch your vid cause I'm at work but here's my $0.02: Check the dust cover on the trans rear housing, hte little sheet metal cylinder over the end of the driveshaft. Mine got bent slightly somewhere along the line and till I discovered it I was sure something was eating itself in the rear end. only made the noise when reversing and turning one direction under power (because the driveshaft articulated just right to rub the shield) Best part is it's easy to check (jack the axle from the center so the tires spin, then spin the driveshaft. should have even clearance to the dust shield all around. I just took a needle nose pliars and tweaked it a hair in a parking lot, took a few tries to get it right.
I say pull off the drum and It should be easy to find because off the raw metal marks.Sounds like it's grinding pretty hard
K guys I pulled out my drum and here's wat I got and also my spline is loose i can shake it and as u can c it's like something's eating my drum up I think I need another rear end
i was just about to say... it sounds like it goes in harmony with the wheels rotation... what do you mean "your spline is loose"? like the center of the axle wobbles?? if its in there loosely and bobbles around it sounds like you may have a busted axle shaft. easy way to find out...... jack that side up as far as you can.... undo the 4 bolts that hold the end of the axle shaft housing in place, and break loose your break line as well as undo your emergency cable from that end.... yank the axle out and see how much of it comes out with it.... if anything else short of the diff splines comes out..... id say you have a snapped axle.
