did a little mod on my truck today using a pair of LED grids i had laying around... kinda took the idea off a AE86 corolla i seen at the meet.... heres what i did...

    started with this...

general area the LED will go in behind the lense..

    cut this section out...

double sided stick tape to cut out section...

siliconed in the piece back in... (yea its messy, i lost the damn tip so i had to glob it on as best as i could) and tapped into my 1157 harness. it wont draw too much amperage so its safe to tap it here...

installed back into place... unless you look at it close (and even then) you cant tell the grid is back there. (lights off)

    running lights on...

    turn signal flashing...

fully lit with headlamps and running lights...

im sure ill get this question mentioned so ill answer it now... ill post up a writeup on the running light / turn signals mod later when i get a chance to photograph document the process on my buddy's truck. :waytogo:

I set mine at a 45* angle so the corner tips wedge between the housing and the lens. Should sillycone them to the buckets. Also wanna chrome spray the orange inside to be brighter. Helped tons on the plastic lined tail lights.

yea... the LED technology has come some way for cars and the uses. i have em all on my interior... rear license plate.. soon to do cluster.. turn signals and backup lights.

byker, looks like your lenses could use a polish bro.... grab some 3m rubbing compound, a little die grinder with a sponge applicator pad and buff em out... they come out looking good as new!

I have lens restoral compound I will hit them and the other lenses with. Wanna do the sides and tails at the same time. These are only like 3 years old, not sure why they are fading. Might be a china probrem.

I just noticed you have the same haircut as me. None.

thanks man. my buddy orders them in bulk from a supplier and sells them to everyone here in the car scene in socal. i think i paid 10 or 20 bucks each...

they were perfect width to fit them into the lenses..

yea man...i always polish then wax my lenses so i prevent the likelihood of fogging up from road contaminants.

and yea.... i have a no*1 buzz all the way around and a good polished oem toyota chrome bumper.

Call me tacky, but I thought up a cool idea for light lenses. If you made a new lens out of thin plexi that is totally clear and free of diffuser shape, you could make a cool rear reflector bucket. My idea is to use little rhinestones or shiny craft gems of some sort in chrome. Paint the housing shiny silver before they go down. Would look pretty spiffy in the day, and probably be reflect awesome at night. The idea came from my grille badge. Its a belt buckle I stole from a hooker in vegas. She owed me money so I took it

I also love my front plate. I have a few more vintage washington ones if anybody is interested. I paid a buck each at a swap meet. People threaten to report my plate number to the cops for my shenanigans all the time. That one comes up as nothing. WIN!

yea... i go get it done at the local barber shop and get a nice clean shave too.

im havin a hard time picturing what yer saying.... or maybe im reading this wrong but American Restoration had a segment on an episode on how to make your own lense new from a mold. im sure with a little modification you can make one yourself in whatever color...

i have some vintage plates too... wyoming 1949 and a couple old texas plates :D

Trade me a texas plate. I got family down there and lived there as a kid.

As for the light. Take the lens off. Make one thats totally clear from plexi. Bedazzle the inside of the reflector socket for the bulb to shine against. Sort of like the H4 headlights that are "crystal cut" instead of a sealed beam having a diffused lens. Make more sense?

I will mail you a grille cheese sandwich and another bag of fritos. Yours looks empty.

I will trade you some old washington plates if you want. Help fill in the collection of old school gear in the shop. Or hows $20?
