Job Full time boat captain for the University of Guam Marine Laboratory and part time captain(saturdays)for a dolphin watching/snorkeling/dinner cruise boat.I get to go fishing for work so I can't complain about that.I'm out on the water like every day and on my one day off my wife wants to hang out at the beach.
It's a bit uneasy when you know a new pilot goes out! Yes, sir. They're about 50-60 yr old aircraft and generally 30 yr old technology, some of which we still use from the beginning. Haha the Global Hawks are quite the joke. I'd rather have pilots up in the air than on an office chair.
Former Army-(Heavy Wheel Mechanic), started welding 7 years ago & now Im a quality control technician for Angus Palm. We build tractor cabs for Caterpillar, Volvo, John Deere, Kawasaki & Komodo.
When did you go? I graduated in Feb of '09. I like the experience and being able to work on newer equipment. But that was never how it was at any shop I when to. I agree on the education... I started working on a degree in Automotive technology at a CC in Sacramento CA, and it was way cheaper but then I got smart and joined the reserves. Did a year of weekend drills, 3 1/2 months of training and a year of OJT and I got out. I could stand all the wannabes there. Spent most of my time working on Military lifts, 6.0 Fords, Dodges, Pontiac G8s, Semi Trucks and trailers. That's where I learned that Cummings is the way to go, Fords suck, and how to work on hydraulic and air brake/leveling systems.
I landed a job pressure washing heavy equipment and semis today. Start on wednesday. Nothing as fancy or high paying as the guys here, but its better than not working. It should be a fun summer job.
Been an Electrician for 18 years, and a part time machinist/fabricator for the last 7 or 8 years. I'm lucky that now I work for a company where I get to do both. Makes for interesting work.
i did heavy equipment welding/fabrication during and after high school. after my wife got her BSN i became a stay at home dad. i fabricate outta my garage, but not a full time deal.
Shop manager and lead tech for a small private auto shop. It was my first job 5 years ago. Still love every single day.
We might need to talk!! Currently in the Navy but that will soon change. Avionics Tech but I honestly haven't worked with a multi meter in my hand for so long I probably remember very little. Mostly supervisor/manager/quality assurance stuff. I've got too many toys but don't have a "Toy" yet. Trying to convince the boss that we should get one (while we (I mean I) still have a little time to have fun (mod) ). Not going to mention modding it...just yet (but she knows I don't drive stock s***) Stressing a little because we'll be out of our comfort zone and looking for employment or school this time next year. Ughhhh...fear of the unknown!
Yeah bro, it was a little scary for me but luckily for me, I always dive head first. I wish that I could have stayed in but I became a widow and the did not want to change my orders and the bit ch that was writing my orders at the time did not want to change my orders because he was too over paid, fat and lazy. I did not want to leave my kids who had lost their mother and now have there father leave for two year to Japan. If I could have taken them I would have stayed in but... here we are. When I started going to a CC for automotive it was cool and the I have here people get paid for OJT and also a check for tools. 9/11 GI Bill is cool but if you already know what you are doing Chapter 30 is better. I guy I know got paid for working like I said and a new tool box and full set of tools...? Sweet!!!
Oof. Non. Tried that for a few years, didn't like the politics. I wasn't IBEW though, it was an IAM local out at the Space Center where I worked for a while. Being a right to work state, the unions don't have much of a presence around here. Maybe again someday.
Truck driving for the last 7yrs. Enjoy the experience and became a super safe driver. Alot of times I can predict what other drivers are gonna do and avoid them. Many times I had to brake so my mini stays in one piece.
That sucks. Forgot florida was right to work. Enless there are some major changes I don't think unions will make a comeback. Yes the politics get me too. Can't stand it sometimes.
Cummins. I guess R&D, running engine dynos. I did com. college then got a bachelors in auto tech. (both of which after spending 4 years in school for tech theatre) If you want to do more than just wrench on cars, (and have the patience and financials) the bachelors opens a lot of doors. I have also done: office b**** work, porter at a dealership, tech at a dealership, tech at an independant, parts counter, arena and theater rigging, set construction, roadie, pizza delivery, and bouncer (1 night each for the last 2) Community college>tech school. A degree, even an associates, is pretty much universal. A certificate means diddly. Me too... love her to death but needs perspective. ha, many years yet to find it
