I lowered my truck by flipping the ball joints and torsions and took out the middle leaf. drove pretty good. 2.25" drop in front and 2.25" in back. I then lowered the torsion some more and gave myself almost an inch drop and then put 2" blocks with angle shims into the rear. I don't think they are tightened correctly since I still have to cut the bolts and tighten the nuts with a socket wrench. But I took it out for a drive and it seems as though i am drifting like when i shift gears and such. Why is this happening?
yeah I only drove it around the block. I cut the bolts and they were very loose. I tightened them up and all is good
I would like to go lower but I am so afraid of the front tires rubbing. I see these trucks with the tires tucked in or barely touching the fender. How the hell do they take corners? I would most likely buy some lowering control arms so i don't lose the ride quality.
Yea rubbing comes into factor the lower you go .. You can change up tire and rim sizes and get it down to we're it clears .. And daily drive with no problems
Tighten them to about 90 ftlbs, then again in a hundred miles. Arm wrench isn't good enough when it's holding tires on.
It's all about suspension travel. You're supposed to have stiffer suspension when you lower, to minimize, reduce, and *control* suspension travel. our trucks are pretty damn soft.
so would I be able too buy stiffer shocks or would I have to get stiffer springs? I am bouncing all over the place on the 95 near Downtown Vegas. What shocks should I get? The Toxic shocks from summit racing?
get bilstein's in the rear... they are a good high pressure gas shock and have progressive valving... either or kyb gas a just.
It depends on your drop and the wheel offset. I have drop arms up front and running 15x7 0 offset with 205/65/15 tires. It is very close, but no rubbing. Here is a picture.
